Default New SRT6 Owner - Finally

Hello All--I finally pulled the trigger this weekend and got my SRT6--after several years of envy.
54K miles at $12,200. What do you all think?

Now I have some questions--
1--Is it normal that the SRT does not really "coast" when the gas is taken off?
2--I hear a low growl coming from the back--not the exhaust. Is this normal? Maybe the rear breaks?

Thanks in advance for all the great info I expect to be getting and finding here at the website.

Welcome and congrats.

Seems like a nice find but you'll also have to be aware, we all want PICTURES and details of the car.

WRT your questoins.
These cars will coast, but not like other cars. The transmission will slow the car down, as it should.
The low growl is normal on decelaration. Mine does it too. I would say nothing is wrong with the car but I'll qualify that with, I haven't heard the noise from "your" car so if it's not the normal growl, it could be something is amiss.

Sounds like you got a great deal. Enjoy the car. A ton on info on here. Use the search and post a thread. Most folks on here are extremely helpful..

Congrats on the 6!

Not sure about the 1st question - I've never really noticed if it coasts or not. I'll give it a try.
On #2, could it be tires? I had a growl but my tires wre shot. New tires, less noise.
From your name, are you from KS? If so, where about?

Congratulations on the purchase!

1 - I know what you're talking about and it's normal. I think it's a great feature in rush hour traffic and keeps my foot off the brake.

2 - I'm thinking the only growl should be the exhaust.

Nice find at that price. Yes these cars do not coast. In fact, with the Cruise control engaged, they will downshift automaticaly to slow the car to your set speed. A verynice feature in the mountains.

The drone sound you hear is normal, especialy in the coupes. SRT or NA they do amplify any tire or gear noise from the rear. Normal. Also the exhaust drone is heard a specific speeds and can be an issue for some. Changing the resonmators (or replacing deleted ones) can reduce this common issue with the Crossie.

My wife's SRT6 drones at 65 MPH but she nevr drives that slow so it is not an issue., Except in New York and New England where 70 MPH is verboten.

Also, don't forget to register your 6 here on the forum AND at WWW.srt-6.com

These are somewhat rare cars and people are interested as to how many are left on the world.

Welcome to the forum
It sounds as if ya got a good deal on the SRT as long as it has no hidden issues or history.

Congrats on the purchase! The reduced coasting is normal. I use my Autostick constantly to slow down reducing wear on the brakes (it reduces the amount of brake dust on the wheels!).

Thanks Everybody for the replies.
I live in Omaha, NE
I found out that it is the rear breaks that are making the noise.

By the way--how important is "Premium Fuel"?? Experiences?

How come you aren't a Husker??????

I would higly recommend using Premium. You could get away with mid-grade but over the course of the year, you won't be saving much, you'd loose the performance benefits of the higher octane and it could affect your engine durability over the life of the vehicle.

Sorry about the questions. I now am more familiar with the site and all the info already here. I'll check before I ask.

No worries. Use the search functionality or just ask. There are plenty of great folks here on the forum. I'm glad that you have a '6.

Evan, replace your pads with Disc Italia hyper ceramix pads from BrakeWorld and you'll pretty much eliminate brake dust. It's one of the best things I did, now I'm going to do the same to my other two cars. A bit pricey but I'm really glad that I did it.

If I can keep a Crossfire long enough to wear out the brakes, I will certainly be looking for pads that provide less dust.

Since I'm brand new with a 05 SRT6 with 55K miles--what mods would this group recommend me taking a look at?? What advice or projects would anyone suggest looking at? Any recommendations would greatly be appreciated.

Unless you know the history of the car, the first thing several owners have done is change the oil and filter, air filters and cabin filter.

If you are looking for an increase in HP, a NeedsWings CAI is in order.

If you are wanting to ensure your ignition key doesn't lock up on you and strand you, the sticky key fix is in your future.

Want a little more thump from your subs behind the seat (yes, they're just subs, not full range speakers)? You should look into the biggest bang for your buck stereo mod. Adds capacitors to the door speakers to block the bass going to them.

Check your steering stabilizer to tighten up your steering.

I'm sure others will chime in with suggestions as there are several on here that have modded the heck out of their SRTs.
