Default Hello from Austin, Texas!

Just picked up a blue'ish 2006 Limited model with 56k miles. Needs a new valve cover gasket installation and a rear tire alignment, but it runs fine until I can take it to the shop on the weekend. Joined a while ago when I first thought of getting the car, decided in the past few weeks I need it.

Anyone else here in Austin? I was at Cars and Coffee at the Oasis last month and saw one in the lot.

Glad you found us. Not Austin but I know where it is. Go to the South regional forum and click on the Murphy's meet coming up soon. A nice drive in the country will let you meet some other Lone Star owners.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the purchase!!

You mentioned that it needs a rear wheel alignment - from what I recall, there are no adjustments for the rears unless you buy an aftermarket kit.
You might do some searching on this as I am just going off of memory ... which fades a little every day ...

Enjoy!!

Thanks for the info Uncle Al!

RL67037, I was quoted $159 to align the rear wheels, not entirely sure of what is done, but I'll update this thread on the weekend when I take it in.

Congrats! Yes, there's a great group of Crossfire owners in the Texas hill country. I've added you to the Texas list where other Central Texas Crossfire (CTC) members are listed. https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...mber-list.html

Will try, not sure if I'll be in Texas on the 24th, but I'll join the list if I can make sure I will be. Thanks!

If they are going to only align the rears, that seems a bit steep. I'd recommend finding another place that would do all four wheels for less.

OH and congrats on the purchase!

Welcome. I'm in Austin. I didn't realize there was a central tx group, I'll have to join. Might make the 24th if I'm not in the middle of mods.

With the stock setup they can only adjust toe in the rear. After having to replace the tires from inner wear, I would strongly recommend you search the "DIY rear camber arms". You could just buy them and have the shop install when they do the alignment (extra cost of course). I had a 4 wheel alignment done at Brake Specialist Plus on 183. I already installed the camber arms. It took them a long time since our cars aren't the easiest but they treated me really well. Think the managers name is Clay if I remember correctly. Should have charged me $120 for a custom alignment but only charge me around $80.

I used the "ultimate performance alignment" specs. The manager was really cautious and didn't really want to do it. After the test drive, the tech said it handled better than almost anything he had driven. I'm very happy with it. If you try that route, they can only adjust your stock front camber slightly. They wanted a lot of $ to install the front camber adjustment bolts I got from NW. One of these days I'll get around to installing them and get the alignment redone.

Thanks for the info, meh03!

Updates: Had a friend tighten the bolts on the valve cover with a torque wrench set to something pretty low (due to engine being aluminum) and he found that a few of them were pretty loose. We cleaned up the engine and it seems to have fixed the oil leak. Will monitor this for the next month to make sure the leak has stopped.
Will edit this post instead of adding another post when I have the alignment done tomorrow, for those of you wondering what the outcome of that will be. Again, I appreciate y'alls advice and warm welcoming!

Edit: Final update for this thread. Had an alignment done today. Click for results: https://i.imgur.com/uciathi.jpg Most of it was out of alignment, and a lot was corrected, but I need to buy camber kits to get the rest in line. I'm not too worried about the front right now, as both are close to the same, but the rear camber needs to be fixed. Will be buying a rear kit next week, and at the end of the summer will buy a front camber kit. Will open a new thread in the proper section next week with any questions I have, this was just to update y'all.

Hi, I live in Southwest Austin. I have a red 2006 LTD roadster that I bought a little over 2 years ago. I had to have new valve cover gaskets installed also when I first bought it. I also had to have the rear wheels aligned. I had it all done at Mazda South.

I have been to several Cruise Ins at ****'s Classic Car Garage in San Marcos. The times I went there have been other Crossfires there, and the museum is free during the Cruise In on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Dicks Classic Garage Car Museum San Marcos, Texas Antique Vintage
