Hello everyone,

just picked up a 2004 Crossfire limited with red/black interior and just shy of 78k miles.

cosmetically, it's not perfect (definitely needs a detail, swirls galore) but the interior is in pretty decent shape. mechanically it sounds and runs good but...

so far i believe the only problem the owner said is something wrong with the secondary air injection pump. if someone can point me in the right direction is resolving this issue, thatd be great.

overall, i enjoyed the 3+ hour ride to get it back home and hoping to learn from what everyone has to offer. thank you in advance!

Hello. I'm new also (last week) and the forum has been great for information. Congratulations on your car. Mine arrives next week. This is a really helpful site.

Welcome to the Forum and congrats to a beautiful black Crossfire! I always loved the red/black interior. If I was to buy another Crossfire that interior would be my first choice. Looks like the headlights could use some sandpaper and polishing to make them look brand new.

The problem with the secondary air pump is a simple one and not nearly as bad as it sounds because in 95% of the cases there is nothing broken except for a bad joint on the Control Relay Module.
Do a search on the forum for error code P0410 and plenty of information will pop up. If you know how to use a soldering iron you can fix this within 5 minutes as you only have to touch up the broken joint and voila, everything smooth again.
However, unfortunately I don't own a soldering iron and have the same problem - there is very nice guy on the forum who goes by the nickname "tighed1". He will fix the broken joint for you and inspect the other joints on the relay. All you have to do is send it to him and he will fix and send back for $25.
Btw, I probably should add that the secondary air problem does not affect the car in any way and the car is totally drivable but I'm just tired of the Check Engine light popping up every not and then!

You will like the forum, lots of great information on our cars and all good people on here! Enjoy!

thank you! i do love the red interior too, its a great accent to the black exterior. i did do the toothpaste method so far on the headlights because i dont have time to go to autozone to get a headlight restorer kit. but the toothpaste buffer and wax treatment made the lights 100x better lol

wow that's very helpful and i don't have the check engine light on right now, im assuming it goes on and off? but the seller did mention that it needs a look. i do have a soldering iron so maybe i can fix it. i'll look up more information about it (thanks for the code) and if i can't fix, i can send it to the recommended person. great to know it's not a pressing matter either.

i can't state it enough but this forum is a whole lot better than some of the previous cars (i've owned) forums and the people there lol

not to make this a how to fix my issues post but, if i may, ask a simple question: there are scratches on the top of my windshield silver piece. it's the one that runs perpendicular and inbetween the silver pillars that surround the front windshield. my question, is it simple to remove the long portion or just mask and respray?

Note on the RCM and air pump issue : It is usually the secondary air pump relay contacts that have been fried, not solder joints on the RCM board.
DJ ( tighed1 ) can fix this too, he has some new relays.

If you have a soldering iron it will be no problem for you to fix it! Just do a forum search and find the "Do it yourself" guide with pictures and precise explanation on which joint it is and what to do!

As for the headlights i recently found out a great and inexpensive way to make them look like brand new. Sam's club only charges $29 to fix both headlights for you. They wet-sand it, polish and apply clear coat to protect them in the future. Best part, you get a 5 year warranty under which you can always bring the car back and have them re-do if they scratch or become cloudy again. That is an amazing deal and made a huge difference on my car. The look like new!

As for the windshield trim. I had exactly the same issue, mine started fading (and so did the door handles). It pops off relatively easy - there are 5 clips holding it in place and if you are careful with a plastic removal tool or a screw driver covered in a cloth you should be able to pry it off one piece at a time. There are threads on here that explain that as well.
You can do a search for "service manual" and download the official Crossfire Service manual. It explains every technical aspect about our cars and how to remove each and every part there is. It's also great for troubleshooting issues.
Good luck! The things you mentioned (air pump error, faded windshield trim and headlights) are the only things that have ever been wrong with my car

good to keep in mind, thank you!

on another note, i've linked the two priorities in my list. hopefully, these are good to start with

is this one of the RCM issues? https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...-start-36.html

this is for the removal of the trims? https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...m-removal.html

Yes, and Yes

If you CAN, mask the windshield piece and paint it as it is, these can be prone to flying off at speed if they have not been properly attached.

AWESOME tip of sam's club. i'm not a member though that's a great price since the headlight kit is already $20.

just posted a link of the trim uninstalled and i did install the service manual but couldnt find the process to take it out.

haha funny how we have similar issues. and i'm glad to hear that about your car since it seems these are common but miniscule problems. i can only see good things to come from this car ::knock on wood::

okay just to keep everyone in the loop and me as well. i just want to document some of the info that's been given to me.

so i checked out the RCM module and saw that the soldering doesnt need to be reapplied and is well.

next, i wanted to clear up some swirl marks. i learned much of my techniques from the subaru forums (previous owner of an 05 wrx) and boy did we treat our cars like porsches. naturally, they have some good info there. my simple process in order:
-wheel cleaner
-car wash with two grit guards using dishwashing detergent as soap
-mother's clay bar kit with lubricant
-used DA polishing tool with orange pads (cutting)
-meguire's ultimate compound
-used DA polishing tool with blue pads (polishing)
-turtle wax polishing compound
this is all i got to yesterday so i shold be finished today but as you're about to see, the results are already drastic. i couldnt get rid of ALL the swirls without wet sanding but majority is gone.
-next step is to put carnauba wax with black pad (finishing) and just detail the inside and im done!

FIRST washed the car
tzYjCaA.jpg

AFTER the claybar, felt so smooth already but the swirls remain

COMPOUND on left side

BEFORE

AFTER

overall, pleased with the results.

this is the next task

i'll update once everything is in finalized
