Talking New Member doing research

I am doing my pre-purchase research, I can do a Crossfire or a mid 2000 mustang in my price range. My worries after reading the newbie advice is this... If you were buying a Crossfire with no warranty due to mileage but can do most basic repairs at home would it be a wise move? Thanks!

I read through all of them. Unfortunately I won't be able to purchase under say 80-100k miles so still nervous.

No one on this forum is going to tell you to buy a Mustang. What is your budget? Let's see if we can help you find a nice Crossfire.

7ish is my budget. I'm in Tyler Texas. Thanks so much! There are several in the Dallas area just weeding through them. The only reason mustang is on the list is due to space. I haven't seen the crossfire in person yet and if I can get groceries in it I'm good!

Well, they are wrong kid. Unless you are very good with wrenches, I would buy a Mustang. Parts are available, and if you can't do it, plenty of Ford Dealerships to help you out. The only help you will get for your XF is this forum and that's it. When you are young and work hard for you money, don't have a garage, don't have all the necessary tools, and the know how...well, it's hard to go back to walking.... I have 3 sons. I wouldn't recommend a XF to any of them...

I love my Crossfire, but Doc is right.

The Crossfire can be expensive to maintain and HARD to get running again if it has a real issue, because it is such an orphan. (Chrysler didn't build the car and cant support it, Mercedes dealers won't admit that it is an SLK320 with a different body.) If there is a local shop with Mercedes experience you can go to, good. But fact is, my tire budget is $900 a year for my car. And I spend it almost every year.

Doc's right, those of us who love our cars, usually do our own wrenching. Not all but many of us do. Also, it requires metric tools and often that is an extra expense. If you drive like a sane person, you can get close to 40k from your tires.....

I am NOT a kid... 46y/o female that has a good selection of metric tools and know my way around the toolbox. I just don't want another Porsche sized headache with a 1500.00 service every couple years. (Been there done that!)

Is there a modern day car today that doesn't need metric tools?

I agree with MrMiata's recommendation here. Looks like a very nice car at the right price (and has already had the top replaced). That's a lot of car for $7200.00.

Talked with the owner yesterday he has an interested party if the deal falls through I will fly up and look her over. Nothing like a road trip to get to know your car!

It's the first person to come up with the $$ that buys the car. An "interested party" is not necessarily in line ahead of you. His CraigsList ad has been taken down now so this one is probably gone. We'll try to help you find another cream puff . . .
