Crossfire won't start
Re: Crossfire won't start
Hello Again. I have been talking to the Dealership about my problem and they aren't sure of the part numbers for the SKREEM and the Transponder ring. Does anyone happen to know these part numbers? They have quoted $55.00 for the transponder ring and $850. for the alarm scrien Plus labor.

Mercedes part# A 170 820 18 26 you can buy a used one on eBay for $35.
Chrysler part# 05099541AA (I think)
Transponder ring is;
Mercedes part# 168 462 02 53 (I think)
Chrysler part# is 05098200AA (I think)
The number for the ring (halo) is probably marked on the one on your car.
I got the SKREEM Mercedes number from a spare I have.
Do not buy a Chrysler part it is the same as the Mercedes part but marked up by 100% at times.

To my knowledge it does, I am just giving the part numbers. I am waiting for a reply on this from a company that claims to do it.

I’m Sorry David,
Due to lots of variables, I can’t assist in this situation. Preferable to have the car on site or else we would be wasting too much time.
Regards,
Yaser

What we need to find is a company that can take your SKREEM or a spare one and fix it without having your car.
They could make good money at it and have a steady income from this forum. I mentioned this to the company I emailed, seemingly they do not have the expertise required.

Re: Crossfire won't start
You took it to a Chrysler dealer? This is going to go very bad for you.
The car is a Mercedes SLK320 with a different body - I know Mercedes won't look at it (and that pisses me off to no end) - so your best bet is to take it to a local independent shop that is known for Mercedes expertise.
At a Chrysler dealer, you will be paying them to guess, make phone calls to Chrysler (who knows nothing about the car) and grope in the dark.
Another thing, if they really have a Crossfire-compliant STAR system, $85 is justified. If they are charging you $85 to read CEL codes - well, that is a dealer for you.

Re: Crossfire won't start
I WILL say that if it IS a SKREEM issue, then a dealer is almost the only choice.
But if they are as dishonest as most others, this could run you $1000 to $2500.
It should NOT cost that, but it is a dealer and they have their overhead and expensive homes to pay for - and you as a service department customer are the finance company for all of that. Such a horrible industry... I detest new car dealers, I really do. LIKE HELL they will EVER see one of my vehicles - even for a recall notice.

Let me add, not a commission like a salesman's, but if not warranty work an you need a battery, you will get a new cable too!

Re: Crossfire won't start
Ask them to list the codes on the repair ticket, not just the name of the code but the actual code number so you can look them up here.
Re: Crossfire won't start
Good Morning everyone. The Crossfire breathes life again. Took it to the dealer and explained to them what I had changed on the car and gave the orders not to change anything without calling me first. They ran the codes and guess what it came back as the Screem as everyone thought. The Skreem module cost $259.00 not bad I thought but the labor was $541.50 to install and $85.00 to read the codes. I thought that was high for 2 to 3 hours of work. Both keys work as they should now and she fires up when asked.
I want to thank each of you for your input on this issue and staying with me to the end. I have tried to document everything thing I did with this problem so someone else may benefit from this. Now it's time to drive it and enjoy. Stay safe and keep it between the ditches
