Congratulations and welcome to the Forum, concerning the crayon smell what you need to do is change your cabin filter it has gotten wet and probably full of debris you know Leaf litter. Use the search bar and type in cabin filter and it should explain how to change it, you can order them online or you can buy them from most Parts houses like AutoZone, advance, NAPA Auto Parts. If you need any help don't hesitate to ask.

Changing the filter will not do it, Waldig said the smell went when he changed the headliner and used another type of cement (3M) to hold the headliner in place. Others have said the smell comes from the carpet. These cars use environmentally safe adhesives and that seemingly is the cause of the crayon odour.
The filter does make a smell if it is damp, always use an activated charcoal filter for the best results. If the filter is getting wet, look at the drainage vents under the cowl and clear out any debris under there while you are at it.

The smell in our coupe went away after replacing the headliner fabric.

Our Roadster interior has always had it's own particular aroma, & no headliner. It has never bothered us. Carpet, maybe, or leather tanning/processing? For us it is simply another unique characteristic of our rather unique automobile.
And Welcome!

Yeah
Got the new cabin filter today. Somebody mentioned the VW smell and I remembered my Dad's old Karmann Gihi and my brothers bus had the same smell.
Thanks all.

Also I notice that there is an open space in the trunk right side opposite the jack stuff did something go there or is it just storage?

Nothing came in that empty pocket, it basically saves foam for the maker and comes in handy.
So what bad news about the high beams did you read? It maybe the switch, no big deal. These cars are getting old and things happen to them, remember that they cost very little so there really is no big deal about the light problem.

Congrats on your recent purchase and welcome to Our Forum. As onehundred80 stated, these cars will have issues as the cars are all in that 10-15 years of use. The electronics are especially a PITA once in awhile. But the good news is that nearly everything that will come up has already been solved by someone on this forum. You'll find shop manuals in our library, which historically has been maintained by onehundred80. Just click on the link in his signature.

Cool
Definality nice lil stash spot.
As to high beams, illumination control module and or multifunction control arm, $$. Could just be a bad connection, no power at the icm or hb so proly the arm. Low beams with fogs will due for now. Good point though im way ahead considering what we could have bought for the same money. We almost bought a used corolla.

I know it sounds juvenile, but "check the fuses". Usually, when someone suggests "check the fuses" I roll my eyes, like when someone says, "it got a short in it"...

But if you just bought the car, you have no idea what someone has done - and HID headlight mods are popular, but I/we've seen some odd techniques used by some "installers".

Each headlight has it's own fuse in the ICM, there is a small chance someone was goofing around and blew them both.

Other than that, the multi function switch has caused issues in a lot of cars. Seems like once a month or so, on Facebook, someone is looking for the MF switch or a part number for it....
