New guy, 2004 Crossfire
Hi. New to this forum. Just bought an '04 Crossfire that won't start. 67K miles, I'm the second owner. Dealership the previous owner took it to says it needs a part that can't be found. I came looking for advice.
Welcome! And what part is needed?
Welcome. what exactly does won't start mean? When you turn the key does the engine turn over? If it doesn't turn over does the fan run? If you disconnect the neg. cable for a bit and then reconnect it does it then try to start? I believe it can be fixed, we just need more to go on. The most likely causes are the RCM, screem or connections.
Got this car from a Honda dealer who's service dept gave up on it. Car came in for service and wouldn't start following the service. Oil change and check over. Shop manager at the time is gone, nobody knows what this mystery part is they couldn't find. I put in a new 730 CCA O'Reilly's battery. Meticulously clean terminal connections.
With key in on position, dash indicator lights are lit.
Starter has engaged twice, turning the engine a few revolutions then disengages. I can twist the ignition key with no starter response.
RCM?
Fan is not running with key in on position.

Try disconnecting the neg. battery terminal for a few minutes, hook it back up and try again. Ig it tries to start three times and then nothing, it is the screem module. Remove it and and it to SOS Diagnostics and they repair them. The instructions are on this sight. To contact SOS Diagnostics just do an internet search. If it doesn't try to start three times and then nothing, it is another issue. Come back and let us know.
Did the negative terminal end to the positive terminal end for a few minutes with no change...starter did not engage following this.
I have sent the RCM off to a member here on this forum in Arizona for his Black Magic handy work.
This screem is a new thing to me...location, and maybe I could send that off too, since I'm twiddling my thumbs until the mailman brings back the RCM?

To be concise, the fan did not run during my fiddling. After I removed the RCM, I needed to move the car. When I turned the key to the "on" position, the fan runs...
Is it was the screem you would get three attempts to start and then nothing. Type screem in the searc and you will get lots of info. If I were you I would get a new RCM and try it. You can and should keep the rebuilt as a spare.
Curious........
you bought a car that won’t start.
buy it for its looks ? Good choice
buy it for a great price? Good choice
buy it to get the girls ! Good choice
fixing it is gonna far outweigh it not starting.
happy miles

I'm a used car dealer. I buy trade ins from new car stores. This Honda dealer had several cars that have sat with various problems for months. I bought them all. This Crossfire I want to drive myself for awhile. I enjoy tinkering.
I"m starting to think SKREEM. But we will know more when the new RCM arrives. Based on the fact that you said the engine fan does not warp up to high speed when you turn the key on, I'd say the RCM is not the issue and that the SKREEM is the problem. But there really is too little information in this thread to go on.

But again, like I said, there is too little in this thread to make a diagnosis anyway.
OK, my bad for not reading the entire thread, I just looked at the last entry.
No intent to be vague. I don't know what I don't know. The key was in the "on position" for several minutes and the fan at no time came on UNTIL after I removed the RCM. Following the removal of the RCM, I turned the ignition key to the "on" position" so I could turn the steering wheel as I pushed the Crossfire out of the shop. At that time, the fan came on. I have never driven a Crossfire let alone look under the hood of one prior to this car.
Computers and control modules fall under " Black Arts" in my book, I am admittedly ignorant and humbly asking for advice in troubleshooting this car.

There is a solution.
I now have two RCM boxes. One on standby. That wasn't the problem. I sent my ECU, SKREEM and key off to SOS in Oregon, where they performed black magic and restored everything to working condition. I am very happy. Now that I can drive it, two new issues....sounds like a rear caliper isn't releasing [swish swish swish] and damn, the exhaust is loud.
Thanks for guidance and support.
