Hello everyone! Newbie here with my 1st post. Bought a 2006 Crossfire in Metal Grey paint. The pics make it look like black but it is machine grey. It has 87K miles on it and "appears" to be in very good condition. Beautiful paint and body condition. The hood shock/strut is bad and have ordered new one. Only things I found wrong was the hood strut, drivers door seal at the bottom is drooping down, paint at top of windshield is starting to peel and the headlight lens are starting to frost. Drives great and automatic trany smooth and has new tires. Interior is in almost like new condition. Just had oil change with Mobile One Synthetic.

 

Things to the check/fix. I will need to check the brake pad condition, maybe get the transmisson flushed and new filter, get underneath the vehicle and see condition of everything, do a headlight lens restoration and see if I can spray radio control cleaner lube inside the volume control, wash and use "Clay Bar" on paint and wax.

Does anyone have any suggestion for me to check on? Thanks

 

Just filled it up with Premium! "$2.68" a gallon. What do any others do about the hight cost. Use acetone or other octane boosters? It's won't be a daily driver but another toy to use once in awhile. I'm sure regular and mid-grade have been tried and am wondering what the results were?

Congrats! About the transmission work, research the trans flush first, many do not recommend this for any car let alone a crossfire (too many horror stories). Make sure you download the service manual and if you don't have one, owners manual from the documents collection here on the website right away! Happy cruising and welcome to the forum!

Congrats on the purchase of the Machine Gray Coupe. Both GraphiteGhost & I have Machine Gray versions. Mine is nearly identical as I have same year, same interior.& same tranny.

With regards to the requirement for premium fuel, I'm sort of a "hard-liner" on this. If you can't afford the fuel, probably shouldn't have purchased the car. Using a lower grade of fuel with some form of octane booster (some do; some don't) seems silly to me. Just my opinion; no hard feelings! The Machine Grey is a rather rare color, my favorite colors for our cars are:
1) Red
2) Machine Grey
3) Graphite

If the cost of premium gas bothers you, you won't like the cost of oil changes or tires. I get around 18,000 miles from an $800 set of tires.
What do I do about gas? I buy premium.

 

Thanks Pizzaguy. I'm just trying to be frugal about the gas. The car is not a daily driver and just another toy to drive around once in awhile. My other two vehicles don't get more than 3500 a year on family car and about 1000 miles on my truck. Wify and I are retired and don't go very many places. I got tired of my standard shift '90 Miata and having to cork screw myself into the seat. As luck would have it the guy I bought the car from just called and said he is going to buy my Miata.

 

Hello everyone! Newbie here with a little infor about me and the car I just bought. I'm retired USAF and live in Tampa, Florida. I bought a very nice 2006 Crossfire which I guess is the basic with an automatic transmission. Runs very nice and no problems and everything works like it should. Going to get registered tomorrow and then start doing a detail job on exterior. Gotta find some nice floor mats though. Don't really understand why my post was moved but I guess that's life.

As luck would have it, the seller called me last night and said he will buy my Miata after I fix the AC. I was asking $2k and so after I fix AC I'll wind up with $1500. Little less than what I wanted but I won't have the hassle of selling the Miata.

 

This is the worst part of the car! Two areas of paint that should be an easy fix. The right rear quarter panel and the front grill. (My pics are too big. Gotta figure out how to make them smaller.)

 

Don't know whether you want carpet mats or mud mats. Both versions specifically made for the Crossfire can be found. I've got both versions (OEM Carpet that came with the car and a set of OEM Mud Mats I bought before discontinuation). But earlier this year I bought a set of mud mats from ExactMats to see how they fit. Probably fit better than the OEM Mud Mats. I use these to rest on top of OEM carpet mats to provide protection for the carpet mats. And my carpet mats still look like factory new because I do this. You stated it is a 2007 model in your pictorial post. Then later stated it is a 2006 model. Machine Gray was available both years. Just curious which model year Machine Gray Crossfire you bought.

 

Welcome to the Crossfire forum! Your car looks great.
Other things to think about:
1. Try to read the date on the battery. Crossfires are very sensitive to battery voltage. Read Pizzaguy's instructions on safely changing the battery or charging your battery. Or PM me if you can't find that.
2. Maybe think about the steering damper. I changed mine at 74K five months ago and could feel the difference.
3. I also changed my spark plugs and wires at 74K. It probably wasn't necessary but I wanted to put the Needswings performance plugs and wires on.
4. Your tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light is probably on...or has a piece of tape over the light. There's a lot of discussion going on about the difficulty in getting replacement sensors to sync. I like the inexpensive external tire pressure monitoring system that uses the screw-on valve caps. It doesn't seem to change the tire balance but even so, I had them balance my new tires in August with the little external valve caps in place. The external TPMS lets me see the actual tire pressure numbers at all times. I'm a worrier about some things and not having a spare makes me think about the tires a lot.
5. I recently installed an oil catch can (Needswings version). There's debate about the value of those oil catch cans. You can read about it yourself. I went back-and-forth about it for a while and just finally figured that I would do my own experiment using a good quality catch can like the Needswings version.
6. The hood support is very easy to replace. Do it for your own safety. (I still prop the hood with an extra wooden dowel just to be extra careful when working under the hood.)
7. Read up on the symptoms for the Relay Control Module (RCM). You might want to have a spare one.
8. Read up on the symptoms for the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS). You might want to have a spare one.
9. Check in on the forum site often. The folks here are pure genius. You will learn more than you ever expect searching and reading these experts' posts.
10. Have fun driving it!

 

Trunk goodies found! Never asked about jack because I knew there were no spare tires. Heard a rattle and looked in trunt. Lifted floor cover and jack, lug nut wrench, tool, quart of Mobile One and air canister were in there! Wish it had come with a owners manual. I downloaded manual but not wanting to print 299 pages.

Seller told me he puts 50 lbs of air in front and rear tires! Does this sound right? Door panel says 32 & 33lbs.

 

I don't know why 50 lbs. That would make for a hard ride and not help traction.

 

The guy is a retard, but this makes you wonder what OTHER stupid stuff he's done.

The top tool (which is also your "automatic transmission unlock tool" )belongs in the CONSOLE not the TRUNK.

Throw the can of "fix a flat" in the trash - it was never a good idea to use it, and by now, it has expired anyway.

 

Romad, 50lbs of air sounds a bit crazy. I doubt they'll explode, but it may indeed require you to get some new teeth fillings.

I've heard the XFire referred to as a large Miata. Would love to get your thoughts on that after you have a chance to drive a few curves.
Last, the more I look at Machine Grey the more I really like the hint of blue at certain angles. Unless of course, it's just my eyes...and at age 70, it really could be?
