Post New Owner

Hi all, name here is Ed, located in Tennessee and i just acquired a 2008 crossfire, oyster gold roadster, manual shift, with 45,000 miles, one owner. So happy with my purchase! I first want to thank you guys for the forum and all the helpful info that's here.

Just a back round on the car.... As i was driving 3 1/2 hrs away to inspect and purchase, dealer called and said that they had burned out the alternator while charging the battery. I assume the car's battery was dead and they tried to charge it with car running and shop charger left on it... they said they came out about an hour later and alternator was done. they replaced alternator and battery for free. Also replaced O2 sensor as they said dash light indicated a bad sensor. I now have no engine light on the dash which makes me happy!

I believe the car sat for a while and is relearning itself which leads me to a few issues i am having. The radio didn't work... found 2 fuses blown (10 amp in the radio itself and the 15 amp booster in the fuse box). Of course the top doesn't work.... only manually.

So going through your threads, I am learning how to diagnose my issues... I have some other issues, that if i mention, someone might narrow down my problem. So the button on the dash for the spoiler doesn't work. Spoiler itself operates as should @ 60 open and 30 closed. I did the mod of removing the cam from the trunk emergency release. I didnt see the other cam on the roof lock ( it was removed prior to my purchase). My windows don't go down when i release the top and push up. The button does light up so i dont think its the first sensor. I looked at the second in the liner and it appears to be closing when top is pushed up.. I thought of it maybe the trunk lock but now that i see no cam on it makes me wonder... but the windows not going down?

I have been trying to teach the roof its steps but one issue i have is that mid cycle of closing the top, i hear a snap like something locks and then i cannot move the top.... it has to be pressure in the system. I go through the steps with the key off and button to relieve it, the system relaxes and goes back down easy. I am unable to teach the system because this has occurred every time i try with the car running.. Im thinking the dash buttons not working may help me with what might be wrong with the top. The reservoir is full. Any help is appreciated!

Added more paragraph breaks so us old guys can read it. -Pizza

The electronics in these cars are very sensitive. I would check all of the fuses before anything else.

Check my fuses. All appear to be good. Spoiler button lights when ignition is turned on, so I am getting juice there. I checked the trunk divider switch for continuity, got it. Button still not working and assuming whatever is causing the spoiler not to work has an effect on the top to work. Windows still not going down when top is unlatched and pushed up.. I am just grateful to have such a car and I’ll just put the top down manually. Appreciate the help. God Bless

Thumbs up Re: New Owner

Very Nice! Pizzaguy is a great troubleshooter. BTW, check your trunk "basement" (very bottom) for any sign of water damage, which can wreak some havoc.

Not sure if you will see this but we are in mt Juliet and host tech days. We post about it on FB Oates and should have another one this summer. However, if you are close we can connect and do some diagnosis on your car if you are still having issues. Also, we can get it up in the air and check it out fir typical items that go bad or tend to need service. We are on the Crossfire tech parts and rescue page on FB and you can message me if you want to connect.

Thank you! I am about 1hr 40 minutes south of Mt Juliet. Yes... issues still the same. Just been manually opening the top. Please post your summer tech days here again as I don’t have Facebook. Thank you all for the responses!

My first comment will be negative - I cant stand that interior color and don't understand why they would do that to the car. On the other hand, the 6 speed doubles the value of the car over those horrible automatics. (As Franc says, "Roadster with a stick, the way things ought to be...")

Oyster is rare, you car WILL stand out at ANY meet, and, often, yours will be the only Oyster there. Many who will be at the Fall Dragon have never seen an Oyster in person, so GET THERE.

They are incompetent, but they do have character and that impresses me. This can't be a Chrysler dealer.

I believe the car sat for a while and is relearning itself which leads me to a few issues i am having. The radio didn't work... found 2 fuses blown (10 amp in the radio itself and the 15 amp booster in the fuse box).
This was another cost of their battery-charging incompetence. Actually, if they jump-started it using another vehicle, then we know what happened - you do not jump start these cars, use a booster battery only.

Of course the top doesn't work.... only manually.

"Mid cycle of closing the top" is subjective, make a video so we can see what its' doing and let's go from there. Please post this in a new thread either in the tech forums or "Crossfire Roadster". The non-fuctioning wing switch is related to the top, or it can be. And this "windows do not go down when latch is released" is something that Id' concentrate on before proceeding. That can be: Bad sensor, trouble on the CAN BUS, issue with PTCM, etc.

I didnt see the other cam on the roof lock ( it was removed prior to my purchase).
I dont' know what this refers to, but I don't like the sound of it - you can't have parts missing and expect the top to work.

ONE CAUTION: The blown fuses and bad alternator/battery are all most likely related. We could have damage to ANY module, or a blown fuse in ANY circuit. Do not overlook simple stuff like blown fuses.
If you never get it resolved, get to the next Tech Day; I'd call today for a room at the Fall Dragon - there will be several good minds in attendance and at least three of us will have quite a good inventory of tools and test equipment as well. We can't take TOO much time, as this is a driving event, but if you arrive Thursday and stay till Monday, we should be able to get to the bottom of any issues you have left over at that time.
