Question Referred by my MB mechanic Lady in distress

Recently purchased 2008 Crossfire 18,599 miles. When car arrived from AL, all was fine no idiot lights on. Battery went dead shortly after arrival. Now the airbag light is on. I work for Mercedes and have 2 techs that service my 2007 Crossfire which now has 202,000 + miles and still is running like a champion, no engine or transmission issues. Tire replacement has been my most $$$ item for the 07. Victor, the tech working on the airbag light issue suspected the clock spring so he changed out the clock spring from 07 to 08 and then he cleared codes. The the airbag light is still on and there are 2 or 3 faults that he is unable to clear with his computer. I told him about the forum and he suggested I put it out there to see if there is anyone in the central NJ area that has a computer that can clear the faults he cannot. Car is currently in the Little Silver area. I see in the Crossfire store they have 2 OBDII CANBUS Code Readers for sale. Any thoughts on if one of those readers would work for this specific issue? Thanking you all in advance for any help or suggestions you can offer. I really don't want to have to go to a Chrysler dealer!

I am not sure why he thought the clock spring was the problem with an airbag light. Clock spring issues I believe would trigger a BAS/ESP light. Is he reading the car as a SLK320 with the STAR/DAS or whatever it is called? I've had luck with the Autel MD802 reading all codes even some better than a DRB3 emulator. Others I believe have had luck with the CRP 123.

Not telling us what codes he is reading does not give us enough info.

Hi Ronman,

Will get more info ie: faults he did show me them on his personal computer, he has his own shop outside of MB. He was reading it as a Crossfire on the computer.

Thanks for your quick reply.

AND DO NOT TAKE IT TO A CHRYSLER DEALER!!!!! 99% of them can not read the Crossfire codes because their new scan equipment is not compatible with the Crossfire and it will cost way too much money for nothing.

FYI Chrysler had an airbag recall on 2008 models.

Hi MI1XFIRE,

Airbag according to vehicle history was replaced before I purchased. Was aware of the recall as my 07 Xfire was in the recall.

Thanks.

If my memory serves me right, I remember instances of airbag light coming on after recall. Apparently some dealers didn't have the proper tool to reset the system after replacement of the airbag.
