Any thoughts on Magnum SRT-8?
A friend of mine is thinking of buying a Magnum SRT-8. After looking on the internet they seem to more rare than the SRT-6. Anyone know what these things run in the 1/4 mile? Any opinions?
No SRT-8 Info, other than I heard they are very fast. We have an '05 SXT (I added RT wheels) its the 250 HP V6, it gets awesome MPG (close to 30 highway) and I drive fast. Holds 5 adults with room to spare, extremely comfortable (bad back and 8 hours on the road and no back problem) handles very well for the size and 250 HP it has a lot of punch (totally stock except K&N). We put 3 dogs in the back, with 5 adults or I have filled it with a ton of mulch, stone, you name it house products, taken it to the dump full of everything you can image from our yard, I've had 9 foot bradford pear trees in it, etc. I put leather seat covers knowing I would have pets, and treat it like a truck, except for having to lay down blankets when I use it as a truck, its great in every way. But if he needs the power the SRT-8 or Hemi is the way to go, they are the bomb!

I seriously doubt they are as rare as a SRT6. I see a lot of them around. Did you find some production numbers online?
1/4 mile - they are the slowest of the SRT8s c/o being so heavy. Dragtimes.com will have some #s for it.
No I didn't fine any production number for the Magnum. Just looking online they seem to have less SRT-8 Magnums for sale than our SRT-6. I actually like them. I do not like the 300's or the Charger. I do like the SRT-8 Cherokee.

For some reason station wagons are deemed "uncool" in the US, but I love 'em. And a fast wagon is even cooler. I don't like the drivability of trucks/SUVs and really prefer that of a car. But sometimes you need extra space, so a (fast) station wagon is perfect. And the Magnums just look so bad-***, especially the 2008 models with the new front end.

I think Chrysler has hit an "evil" design streak that is killer-
they could always hit the performance button when they really felt like it...
I was looking forward to the imperial too...SRT-12? too bad.
... glad you were able to rejoin the forum...seems members of this forum are notoriously nit-picky.

I bought my '06 Magsrt8 in July '05 and waited 4 months for it to be built.
Since Nov '05 I've put 30K miles on it, and it's still stock except for a K&N filter. Mixed city gets 16-17 all hwy gets 21 MPG. I weighed it on cert. scales, with me in it, race weight 4,600 lbs. Haven't had it over 150 mph yet, but it was still pulling hard/accelerating at that speed.
I won the SRT Nats street tires SRT8 division in it in '06. That was against the 300's, Chargers and the Jeep GC's. They are all very close in the 1/4 you really can't see a pattern, except for the Jeep being quicker in the 1/8th from lower gears, and paying for the weight by the end of the 1/4.
There are the odd freak fast in each SRT type running high 12's but on the main they all run low 13's. At Nats it was 104* elev was around 1,500 ft, don't recall the DA but it wasn't good. My time was in the 13.4's IIRC. My PB is a 13.1 in better weather with a 1.9 60 ft and a 108 MPH trap.
For Comparo, at this years SRT Nats I won the SRT6 street tires with a 13.005 1/4 and a freakish fast 60 ft but with only a 104 trap.
Flores always traps higher and likely would have beat me, but in true hotrodder spirit he spent his time helping a buddy fix his busted Skittle. So the guy could get home when the event was over.
Right now if I had to replace my SRT-6 with another car it would be either a SRT-8 Charger, 300 or Magnum with the Magnum looking to be choice number one. Not counting the high end stuff, there simply are no other cars I'm interested in that provide such driving entertainment as the SRTs.

I'm not a 4 door kind of guy, never was, probably never will be. But if I had to have a 4 door, I'd much rather have a wagon (that is if I can't get something like a Nomad which has two doors).
Anyway, I like fast wagons and I've liked the Magnum ever since it came out.
Forum member Kmag52 had one, and the only negative thing he ever told me about it was poor rearward visibility. (this coming from a former XF coupe owner)
so it must be bad. But hey, that's why they make outside mirrors. Right?
