Default dumb question #331: What is taking up space under the trunk of a Solstice Coupe?

Having looked at a Solstice Coupe recently, it appears to have the same trunk space as a Porsche Cayman. Except the Porsche Cayman has an engine in the the trunk, which explains the lack of trunk space.

What is underneath the cover in the trunk of the Solstice Coupe that causes the trunk to have no space at all?

It would more than likely be the gas tank.

Purely speculation though.

Yes, it is the fuel tank. I briefly considered the Solstice roadster as a comp to the Crossfire, but the lack of ANY storage space in the nice little car killed the idea instantly. Barely a spot for a pack of cig's in the cabin, and not enough room for the wife's purse in the trunk.

What could GM have possibly been thinking?

It's funny....the Solstice has less space than our cars.....even the convertible. I have no idea how the 'vert has less space than our cars......they have a manual top and we have power tops????

If I remember right the cupholders are in the island behind the seats. Just looking for an accident to be caused. Not an easy car to get in and out of either. I had to sit down into it sideways, tuck my head under, then swing my legs in. It was pretty cool looking though.
