Audi just unveiled their new 2010 Audi R8 GT 5.2. Just thought I'd share some pictures of this sweet new ride.

They increased engine output from 525hp up to 560hp, simply by changing the engine electronics, now matching the Gallardo. Curb weight was reduced 220lbs, with a thinner windshield, polycarbonate rear windows, thinner aluminum sheet metal for the hood and CFRP used for the rear hatch, rear bumper and signature side blades. Replacing the bucket seats with seats made from CFRP that saved close 70 pounds and lightweight carpeting that saved an additional 17 pounds. The added muscle and reduced weight of the R8 GT results in a blistering 0-60 of less than 3.5 seconds and a top speed of almost 199 mph.

The GT will also be available with a race package that includes a bolt-in roll bar, four-point seat harnesses, a battery kill switch and a fire extinguisher. A full roll cage is also a factory option.

While the hand-built Audi R8 is already a rare car, the all-new Audi R8 GT will be limited to just 333 total units, pricing and availability in the United States have yet to be determined.

Bill, that thing is a beast, and while the new R8 spider they have out will not run it down in a race, it would look better driving down A1A into Miami beach....

Now if they would just get rid of that black strip. Saw a silver one a few months ago that was all one color and man was it fine looking!

You can do the "blade", as it's called, practically any way you want.

Got a black car and you want a silver one? Go for it.

Red car and you want a blade in black? Fine.

Carbon fiber? Cool.

Same color as the rest of the car? Just tick the appropriate box.

Blue car with a green carbon fiber blade? No sir, you're an idiot and we won't sell you a car at any price, now please exit the dealership immediately.

I really like those wheels. A Simple split 5 spoke, no bling, no fake "bead looks", spinners, et al. crap. A V10 is nice too... Are those 4 valve or 5 valve heads???

DOHC, four valves per cylinder, continuously variable intake and exhaust valve timing. A variation of the same motor that powers the Audi S6 and Lamborghini Gallardo.

I saw a black one with a black cf blade at the dealership in Greenville SC. It was the V8 and I think it was rated at 435 hp. It was locked up tight and had a sign saying no test drives. When I mentioned I knew the owner of the dealership someone was sent to the vault for the key. They let me sit in the drivers seat and while the picture of the interior is cool, you have no idea of the quality and workmanship until you are in it. And then.......... he handed me the key and said fire her up. Never been so excited about just cranking a car in my life and the sound inside the show room was awsome. After I had a few blips of the throttel I was invited to stand at the back of the car and hear her rev! These cars are so special, a true work of art and an engineering marvel. The sticker said just above 120k and my reaction was ....Man that is reasonable for this! Find one to see in person, even if you have to drive a bit.

well, those four CVT drums and solenoids would be the first thing to go. Who cares about emissions. Plus a weight savings of about ..... 20lbs???

That's a weight savings of 220lbs, not 20lbs. That, and the 35HP bump in power shaves almost half a second off the 0-60 time of the standard 5.2L V10 car. Not too shabby, actually.

I dunno about 200lbs. but yes, more than 20 lbs. CVTs are for emissions, well the exhaust side, especially if it's a turbocharged engine. The intake side, maybe a mild gain if at all, but CVT was introduced for emissions. How do you figure a HP gain??

Ah, a bit of confusion on my part perhaps.

The weight savings I mentioned was what was done overall to this car versus the standard issue R8 5.2. Some of the power gains were accomplished via the valve train changes, ECU programming etc. Nonetheless, this GT makes 35HP more than the standard R8 5.2 and weighs 220lbs less. That's really what the press release here is all about - how different this car is from the standard V10 version of the R8.

I gotcha... My last post was just that this updated car without the CVT crap. Not really worried about a carbon footprint
