Drove my dream car this afternoon!
yes sir Pat....I love to find a nice stock, but sporty, car...Camaro's and Vette's mostly...over the years. I would keep the exterior as stock as possible, but make the "wow" moment under the hood. Got away from all that for about 3 yrs...now, I just have the X's because they are different from anything I have had....muscle cars, are a dime a dozen at car shows around here...exotics are kind of neat, but way too expensive...the x'x'x'x'x's just mark the spot....lol
I know what you mean Doc. There is a really clean, stock looking 68-69 Camaro in dark metallic blue at our Cruise in. Its like one of the old Yenko Camaro's, pie pan hubcaps, and under the hood a 454.
Well they have just gotten another Cobra in. This one is in my price range but I haven't seen the car yet, know very little about it, low miles. I hear it has FI which leads me to believe its a Mustang donor type of car. Not sure til I see it though. So hopefully I'll go over at lunch, more later.
Well a follow up - It is a Factory 5 car. So I'm not too excited, they say it was professionally built, I'll see what the documentation is. It's trophy blue??? never heard of the color. Peter Brock built the engine in the car, that is a plus. So I'll go over and look at the car. It doesn't sound like its something I'm interested in.

Thanks Doc - Happy Holiday's to you too!
Well back from the test drive. I was pretty impressed with the car, salesman sure didn't describe the color right, it's Guardsman blue (more like our Aero Blue), much more to my liking than "trophy blue' which is like a washed out SSB the salesman told me. Peter Brock had something to do with this car, he's well known in Cobra circles and was apparently one of the designers of the Daytona Coupe which is basically the hardtop Cobra. I think he may have built the engine or his shop at least, Brock died in a race a while back. This car has a fi 347 with about 400 hp ( a punched out 302). I couldn't believe how smooth it ran, only managed to stall it out once. The car is sharp, like new, just over 2500 miles on it. There will have to be some changes if I get it, white ceramic side pipes and American Torque thrusts will have to go, side pipes will be changed to ceramic coated silver. Not sure what the guy did with the upper seat belt on the drivers side, that'll have to be re routed through the rear bulkhead and then there's the yellow slasher stripe on the drivers front fender, that'll have to go as well the chrome chip guards. Probably do 3m film on that area and the front end. Very impressed with the car, I put a deposit on it to hold it til Monday when my finance guy gets back, he has to approve it and I have to make my final decision. One way or another a nice way to spend another beautiful afternoon. As we were driving back to the place the sales guy said all these people think we are crazy (35 degrees in a roadster with no top) they have no idea how much fun we are having!
I leave you with that, have a great holiday.

Here's a nice "color" Pat.
I think it's called polished aluminium.

Mike that's either a Kirkham or one of Shelby's CSX cars, (probably made by Kirkham although I think Superperformance made a few as well). They come in an unfinished or finished aluminum body. There was one at our cruise in a while back. Not sure how practical they are but they sure are pretty and mucho expensivo! I'm still on the fence about the current car I'm looking at and I'm trying to talk them down of the Superperformance they have. I can actually get a better financing deal on that car (SP) Unfortunately my finance guy is MIA either from the snow storm or Christmas vacation.
Well we are very close to a deal. Has to be done by New Years eve to get a discount they are offering. Finance guy is crunching the numbers!

Thanks guys. No Lantana, the SP is going for $47,500 which puts it out of my monthly payment range. I'm not killing myself. The other car after a few cosmetic changes will be fine, the yellow stripes should already be gone. It runs really smooth, will look cool with a set of Halibrands and a few other changes that should be realitivly easy to do. I want something for the spring so this will give me time to get the car how I want it. You gotta start some where! Finance guy said the car has his blessing so now I cut the deal. We did the worst case scenario and I'm a bit under where I was figuring so that is good news as well.
I have made them an offer, financing is now in place up to my limit so we shall see if they accept it. If its doable then I will have a Cobra in the garage for the New Year, if not we keep looking.
Pat, when you get your Cobra, here's a video to remind you of two things you should never do.
1. Never let anybody ever drive your car on wet pavement.
2. Never purchase a removable hard top.

Have to agree dinasrt. Wonder what the story was behind that? Didn't look like she had much experience with a stick at the same time something may have been mechanically wrong with the car or she was intoxicated. As well the pedals on most Cobras are very close together not spaced like a normal car. You really have to get use to that before you drive it.
You can be sure of two things, there are only two people I would let drive my car, my son and son in law and I'll be in the car when and if, don't have to worry about my wife she probably wont even ride in it. And no I promise to never, ever get a hardtop or convertible top for that matter. Went over last night and did a run thru on the car just making sure its what I wanted. Also told them a few things that need to be done before delivery, a couple of cosmetic things. When I finally get the car all that will be need to be done is swap out the wheels. It has 17" American Torque thrusts that have the spokes powder coated white. I'll be swaping those out for a set of American polished Cobra wheels. The only other things is having the side pipes ceramic coated in silver. They are done in white right now, I just like silver better. This one doesn't have stripes so down the road I'll have to decide if I want them and what color. Hopefully I'll have all this done by spring for the coming cruise season. Gonna miss the Crossfire. Its been a great car and I wish I was independently wealthy, I'd have two toys but sadly I can only afford one. By the way the Cobra color is blue, closest I can describe is a Marina Blue or and Aero Blue. The car was professionally built and has a 347/450 hp FI engine in it (punched out 302). I was kind of against the fuel injected version of this car but after driving a few of them its the smoothest and easiest to drive. From a reliability standpoint I'll be better off. We are 99% there, got my fingers crossed!

Congratulations Pat, I know the cobra well enough to have withdrawl symptoms if I can not get my 'fix' a few times a year...
And it is one of the few cars that I would honestly say is better looking with nicer lines than an XF.

congrats Pat....I'm getting a little bored while waiting on the Limited Slip rear ends to get here...fuel prices are kicking my butt right now...so the XF's are on the back burner for awhile...to see where we are headed economy wise. I have had a lot going out with not much coming in for the past month, so, who knows, there may be a couple here for sale in the spring. I need a new rig...just priced one...'09 left over, old emissions, $121K...so, this is my living, may have to put the hobbies away...glad it has worked out for you....we shall see where we are headed, might have to go backwards for awhile....
I know what you mean doc about the gas prices. I'm lucky enough to only have to fill up once a month. My wife and I both work real close to home so that makes it a lot easier on the pocketbook.
Still waiting to hear from my finance guy who is finishing the deal, got me a bit nervous at this point in things. So we wait and wonder.
