Anyone challenge a Honda S2000?
I always would rather have an S2000 than a Crossfire, simply becuase of it's higher performance, cheaper price, and drop-top ability. I didn't get it because the lease numbers weren't anywher near as good as the numbers that I got on the Crossfire. Has anyone even challenged S2000's? On S2000 websites, all I hear about is how they ate us up for dinner
From Car and Driver:
http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=4
Our own 0-to-60 time of 6.3 seconds was set with a hole shot just south of the redline on a car with only 369 miles on the odo, but that's behavior reserved for people who can do clutch changes on their lunch hour. Regular Joes can expect 60 mph to arrive closer to the 7.6 seconds of the S2000's 5-to-60-mph time, the second-slowest rolling start ahead of the Audi.
_____
The S2000 produces most of it's power above 6000 RPM. I seriously doubt the "ate us for dinner" claims.

Looking strictly at the numbers...
The S has a good 25 hp over the Xfire (not counting the SRT6), but the Xfire has a good 70 lb-ft of torque over the S (so climbing up the hill would be easier in the Xfire). However, the Xfire also has a good 200+(Coupe)/300+(Roadster) pounds on the S, so the hp:weight ratio is definitely in favor of the S.
When numbers are reasonably close, as is the case here, it's difficult to make a specific call. However, my money would be on the Xfire taking us off of the line, but the S taking you guys in the long haul if we're able to wring out our engines.
Oh, and Dan... I'm not sure if I would consider a driver (of ANY car, not just the S) chicken just because he doesn't want to race you on the street. Frankly, I'd consider the one who backs down from a street race the smartest of the two

From a rolling start under 10 mph, the Crossfire would definitely jump ahead, the S just doesn't have the torque to move it at low RPMs. If you were to pull up to one at a light and he started to rev the thing like a swarm of angry hornets, then watch out.
Regardless of which is faster, the S2000 looks like a Miata on steroids i.e. feminine. If you ever want to mess with someone who owns one, just tell him how "cute" his car is and watch him turn red

I use to own a 2000 S2000 when they 1st came out. I hated it severly prolly more than the crossfire. I guess all the problems i had with mine are changed with the new one.(Revised Version 2.2L) As far as speed goes if the guy has skill with his s2000 we lost. Has a good half a second on us. But if he doesnt scream rpm drop the clutch it will be hard for him to beat us.
i own a 05 crossfire, and the best times that i have heard for the crossfire is 6.4 from magazines, al the way to 7.1-7.6 and the same emagazines (car and driver-road an track and etc.) rate the s2000 at like low 6's to mid 5's. correct me if i am wrong but i think that the s2000 would win with similar drivers,

ok my buddy has a 2000 last week end we put it to the test. off the line I smoked him (with traction control off, lose 25-35%hp off the line when dropping the clutch) rolling start I smoked him! 4th gear drag on highway he walked away slow but still walked away.
Try it at a 5-10 mph roll. S's really don't have that much grunt in 4th gear, nor off the line. But allow us to remove the stand-still limitation, and we surprise a lot of people.

IMO Both cars are great, but I as a crossfire owner must say that the s2000 is straightaway fast but on winding roads no way. Plus what stands out more, duh? The crossfire is the better overall car in my opinion. I hate when cars are judged just off of 0-60 1/4 mile. Great stats but what about the braking? slalom speed? or you can go as far as maintenance costs. Did anyone read the article on the evo Viii in car and driver for the long term test. if i remember right they had like $10k out of pocket for parts and tires, and stuff. just my 2 cents.

If you are paying $100 for an oil change you are getting ripped. I was told by the dealer that it would be $80 to change the oil in my SRT. I got smart and bought the oil from Wal-Mart for $20 then paid the $10 in labor at a local shop. I think the filter hit me for $5, too. Total for oil change: $35. I plan on doing the same for the Xfire. I'm sure the oil is a little pricey but the filter and the labor should be no more than $15. Now if you have a Boxster that is a different story. I've heard the oil changes in one of those are upwards of $300! That is just plain bad engineering...

Granted the Crossfire probably makes the better driver, but the S2K is the better performer. I never really had a mechanical problem with my s2k. And they spent under well under 2 grand for 2 sets of tire and a brake job for the evo. And then 3 grand to Vishnu for performance modifications, The grand total they put into it was around 5k. Not 10k. I have 1200 dollar wheel setup on my crossfire just so I can drive it in chicagoland snow. Don't forget the Crossfire needs 100 dollar oil changes. They are both pricey to maintain. Just my .02

Even comparing our car to the Z, S2000 and RX-8 is silly as those cars are geared more towards perf rather all around like our car. That being said, I wished I'd checked out the used EVOs in our area.
