Default Mercedes-Benz long-serving V12

I just realized TODAY that Mercedes-Benz is still using "Crossfire" M112 engine architecture in their V12 engines. This began with the M137 V12 of 1998 and was carried forward to the M275 & M279 engines, the latter of which is found under the hood of every V12 Mercedes/Maybach currently for sale. All these V12s, each one with slight changes simply a development of its predecessor, are SOHC, 3-valves per cylinder, twin-spark (2 spark plugs per cylinder), with 12 "dual" ignition coils, and perhaps most surprising of all retain indirect (IE, port) fuel injection. Except for the earliest M137 version none of the V12s use cylinder deactivation, a big plus for longevity in my opinion.

I found Mercedes' retention of their "old" technology very surprising, and something which makes me feel far more comfortable about owning one. Since I only just realized this I look forward to what others might add.
