WTB: Key fob for xfire
I have 2 keys for my crossfire, one of which is in pretty bad shape. I'm basically looking for a brand new key fob shell, internal guts and key will get swapped with the ones in my current receiver and thrown away.
PM me if you have a key in new or like new condition. Doesn't matter if the key works or not. I'm hoping some of you who have been parting out xfires have a spare key fob I could purchase.
Thanks.

Nice, this is exactly what I was looking for. I didn't even think to look up mercedes key fobs!
Best part is I don't have to waste the innards or fight to get the new one apart. Just swap key and add the circuit board and voila!
Thanks!

Does anyone know if I need to order the A or B key as that is what the e-bay vendor is asking me which I want? Or does it not matter if I will not use the actual key?
Thanks

Upon further inspection, it looks like this one includes a button for the trunk, something the xfire key fob does not. Is this going to be a problem?

I am interested to see if the Crossfire fits into the plastic case of the MB..It looks close..I don't know if you get the cigar. Keep me posted. I want to switch out my old key for a new case as well.

At worst I'm assuming the button will be pushable but it won't do anything. Everything else looks like an exact match. We'll see when it shows up.
OK - so I finally got the new Key FOB I orderd from ebay Folding FLIP Remote KEY CASE Mercedes-Benz 4 Buttons - eBay (item 160518978310 end time Apr-12-11 07:28:28 PDT)
& swapped out the Guts form my old one that had a worn out panic button.
Although this FOB does work it takes a couple hours of Pain in the butt modifications so if you just want a quick swap don't buy this one, try one that is already the exact match.
I will elaborate on the modifications you will need to do if you do purchase this 4 button unit off of ebay. By the way the 4th button for opening hte trunk is not on our crcuit board so nothing happens when you push that button.
First are a couple of pictures of the actual Key FOB I received in the mail about 3 weeks after ordering it. Our key is the typ "A" version if you are actually getting a new key cut make sure you order that one. A has a square end and B has a point.
To remove your old guts follow the great post by tom2112 (thanks Tom) https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...estroying.html
I did not have the special pliers on hand so I just used needle nose plyers but there was so much epoxy that it deid break the shell of the old FOB and when it let loose the parts flew all over (lucklie I found them all and no damage).
See my next post for the rest of what I did to make the MB Fob work.

Yeah I got mine the other day and attempted to make it fit. It is not an exact fit by any means. Numerous plastic bits have to be removed and the key does not rotate properly. I wrote it off as a loss, unfortunately.
OK so there are some differences as you can see by the pictures of the MB FOB vs the original.
There are differences in both the plastic case and the metal key part that need modifying.
The first difference and obstical is the original plastic back has a single tab for the white piece to fit over and the newone has a T shaped tab. I cut the tab with a razor knife to allow the white piece to fit properly (see pictures).
2nd issue in next post

The New MB FOB doesw not have this slot in the plastic so I had to guage out the slot. I did this by heating up a sharp hole cutting drill bit to easily carve out the square I needed untill the transmitter would fit into the slot and the white piece could fit in all the way down properly.

To overcome this issue I swapped the bezel's using my old key and the new MB bezel. This creates even more work since the slot in the new bezel is too small for your old key. I had to file down the area where my original key fits into the slot with a metal file to get it to fit.
(see pictures) you have to punch out the pin that holds the keys in the bezels and swap them and then it will flip out properly.
Almost done - one more post to come for the final details.

I re-used the black button from my old FOB as thenew one didn't work properly and pop up far enough.
There is a difference on the new FB now where I need ot depress the button to close the Key which I did not have to do with the original FOB. Not a big issue to me but noteable.
Also - my panic button on the new FOB doesn't work - I am guessing there was probably and issue with the circuitboard because the red rubber button was completly worn off of the old FOB and it may have received water damage or something as it was exposed?
Note- When I first went to test the FOB it did not work so I started the car with it to check if the chip worked and then oce I got out the lock and unloclk did start working so I am not sure it the starting the car activated something?
I have not checked the distance this FOB works compared to the original but I believe there may be a more limited range due to the old one having the clear red area to allow for longer range and this FOB does not.
Overall this FOB is a nice solid feeling replacement case - I like the black and it has a nice Mercedes Logo moulded into it which has a nice classy look.
Think thats it.
Cheers,
Steve
