Default I won a dyno day competition!

One of the repair shops that buys parts from us had a dyno day and they invited me out. Since they work on mostly european imports, I didn't know what to expect. I loaded up and went out anyway.
There weren't many cars that showed up and those that did were either woefully underpowered or had issues with the traction control preventing a full run.
My runs smoked 'em all by a fair margin.
I blew out 263.4 hp at the wheels to run away with the title.
Not too shabby for the little Crossfire. It was more than the guys at the shop expected.

They're planning on doing another one and advertising it better. If that happens, my little car doesn't stand a chance. I'll have to bring the hot rod out and see what it'll do after the latest upgrades.

Thanks for the update bud...how's our SRT doing these days? No issues? Were those results about what you expected?
FYI... I drove by a local dealer and they still have their Aeroblue SRT sitting there unsold...it's been at least 9 months (probably more) it's a shame.

~ seems low to me as well...

my '02 M3 had 333 hp... and dyno'd 290 to the wheels.

You can usually expect to lose 20% going through an automatic transmission. 330 hp -20% drivetrain loss = 264 hp.
Manual trannies generally fall between 10% and 15% loss.

That's what I always though the drivetrain loss was, but X'ed says different, I believe the auto is more efficient than 17%. Now maybe he is right, and your dynoing on an AWD dyno is creating more drivetrain loss by turning the front rollers, than that used on a 2WD dyno would put out. But then again chassis Dynos are never really that accurate compared to say an engine dyno.

Have you taken the SRT6 to a 1/4 mile track yet? Any numbers?

What is the difference, besides body style?

that's what i'm saying. i don't know why srt-6's seem to dyno so much lower, some slk's are in the 290's stock. that's pretty massive power.

I think it might be attributed to the fact that SRT owners are dynoing on AWD dynos in 2wd mode, the added mass of turning another pair of rollers is sucking power. So if the owner operator of the awd dyno doesn't correct for this in his dyno software, then you will get false readings.

that's as good a guess as any. would be interesting to find out. it would be a trip if you could just swap to an slk ecu and pick up 30 whp.

False readings? What are you smoking?

My car was backed onto a single axle dyno. Automatic tranny Crossfires have no problem on the dyno. It's the manual trannies that have problems.

I made 263 hp at the wheels with a factory rating of 330 flywheel hp. That is right in line with what it should be.
The SLK 32 has different cams and is factory rated at 349 hp. Expect it to dyno higher. It should dyno in the neighborhood of 280 to 290 hp.

Look down the forum a thread or two. You'll see that I ran a 13.27 @ 105 mph at the Texas Motorplex.

well your 1/4 mile times says your putting down about 270 HP, that should give you a 20% loss in drivetrain, now that sounds more realistic. that's all I was trying to find out.

have you though about getting those slk cams installed?

I don't have any desire to start hot rodding the Crossfire. Well, not until I have the hot rod fixed up the way I want it.

So, the automatic transmission crossfires have no problems on a two roller dyno? hmm...

I'll have to try that with my guy in San Jose and see what the difference is as we ran it on a AWD Mustang dyno with the rollers linked in AWD mode and I got 249 BHP to the rear wheels.

I'll try and make time this month to do it again and have the front rollers disconnected.

It's surprising how quiet these cars are on the dyno. The machine was louder than my car. A free flowing exhaust has got to add a few ponies but I'm leaving mine alone.

I did a quick search for horsepower calculators and typed in your trap speed and ET based on the 3,328 advertised weight and I figured you weighed a buck fifty. Interesting results though. I am trying to upload the picture of the results. What is your approx altitude where you live?

That's not far off. We're sitting under 500' in altitude but my fat *** tips the scales at 225.

LOL! I, like you, have an early domestic as well. A 1966 Ford Fairlane. I am totally into turbos on the early rides as well. People just don't expect that. One day I would like to do a custom install on mine as well. So far I have the drivetrain for the power, C6 with a Billet torque converter and a Currie 9 inch w/31 spline axles and a locker.
