13.366 @ 106.49 - Yeah baby!
Second time at the track tonight. I'm pleased, I trimmed two tenths off my quarter times. I'm still learning how to launch, so I'm hoping for more improvements with more practice. Here's the slips:
Run:___First____Secnd____Third___Fourth____Fifth__ __Sixth
R/T:___0.867____0.832____0.806____0.691____0.904____ 0.761
60':___2.106____2.096____2.112____1.844____2.104__ __2.165
330:___5.731____5.743____5.755____5.499____5.735__ __5.824
1/8:___8.691____8.731____8.708____8.496____8.697____ 8.810
MPH:___82.78____82.08____83.16____81.72____82.81__ __81.92
1000:_11.167___11.231___11.171___11.010___11.174__ _11.317
1/4:__13.374___13.444___13.366___13.426___13.382___1 3.545
MPH:__106.09___106.14___106.49___105.49___105.90__ _105.18
I need to work on my 60 times. But the one that makes me go 'hmmmm...?' is the difference between the third and fourth runs. Note the 60 times against the 1/4 times. The fourth run had a much better 60 time, but was a worse 1/4 time. I wonder what happened there...?
Oh yeah, and the car is still completely stock. I'm hoping that with practice I can get down to 13.0.

You'll be surprised by people's reactions at the track. The SRT-6 is a real head-turner. Even the car afficianados at the track don't know what to expect from the Crossfire. They're mostly thinking "oh, this guy is gonna run 15's - big deal". Then you run a 13.5 and they wake up and pay attention. You start edging towards 12's and they really want to know what's going on with your car.
That is just about EXACTLY what mine ran stock. My 60s were slightly better, but my mph was slightly less. I haven't run it with the tune and intake yet.
Mine did run an 8.51 @ 84.98 MPH in the 1/8 with a 1.90 60 with only the NeedsWings intake. I think that trnaslates to roughly a 12.8 1/4. I'm hoping for 12.5 with the Intake, Tune and deleted Resonator.

My first run under 13.5 I was grinning ear to ear. Enjoy it. Pretty soon you'll be scratching your head and wondering what you did different. Do yourself a favor and use the temp gauge in the car and write down the temps on each slip. It will help later on. To many other factors but that will help with your baseline.
Sorry to disappoint, FP.
If I had one of those, I wouldn't be posting ET's on a Friday night. (I'd wait until morning.
)
Good point about noting the temps and such on the slips. I saw a couple other guys making notes on their slips my first night, and that tipped me off. I've been jotting down things like what RPM I launch at, whether I did a burn out or drove around the "wet spot", temp, humidity, and if I felt that I spun out at launch or not.
In fact, I just bought a cool digital temp/humidity gage to put in the car for track nights. It was only $12.50 shipped. It's not exactly scientifically accurate, but it beats trying to surf the web on my blackberry to find out what the temp/humidity is.

Thanks I was just looking for something like this. Same here I didn't want to haul my laptop around. That's great your writing all that down. Your gonna be way ahead when you start bracket racing.
Good idea on the temp gun. Are they expensive? I'm curious to see what my intake temps would be...
BTW, CQ: I think I know what happened with my fourth run - why it had a worse ET but better 60'. I had run the third and fourth runs back to back. I litterally ran down the track and went directly to the staging lanes, and they sent me up again. There was about 4 minutes between time slips. So I'm betting the heat on the fourth run was what kept my ET lower, even though my 60' was better.
It's amazing to see how much effect heat has on these things.

Found one from RadioShack for only $15:
"Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer"
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2103171
Cruise over and pick one up, and save the $5 ebay-shipping! One of the reviewers uses it for measuring tire temp variances across the tread - more for autocross than drag, but cool none-the-less.

Tom your car is running exactly the way all the magazine road tests say it should run. Some people think the factories supply the Magazines with "Ringers" just so they get better test results (that occured a lot in the 60's) but I don't think it's a problem now. Because I've been able to match or better the 1/4 mile times documented by the magazines in most all the new cars I've had on the track.
Now for some more good news, All Drag Strips aren't created equal. I assume you made your runs at Quaker City, and one of the things I discovered was I usually turned my slowest times at Q City.
The summer of 71 usually found Sandman50 and I at Q.C. on Friday night, and Dragway 42 on Saturday night. His Mach I and my AMX were both automatics and very consistant runners, and we almost always turned better times at 42.
I saved the best news for last. The best time I've ever ran with my AMX was at Thompson Drag Raceway, and that track should be just about as local for you as Quaker. Before you make any mods, why not try Thompson and see if you do any better?
I am curious, how do most SRT jockeys drive their cars on the strip? Do you use the slap stick feature and shift it manually, or do you simply put it into 1st. and leave it there and let the Tranny's computer do all the work? Sort of a point & shoot method.

There's one downside for Thompson. I work about 5 miles from QC. So I just drive the SRT to work on Fridays, and go straight to the track.

I read someone else here in the forum shifts with the auto-stick, and even starts in 2nd gear, then immediately shifts down to first after the launch, and lets it shift from there. They seemed to think it gave them better launches. I haven't tried it, as it just doesn't sound like it would be good for the tranny.
Most of the lauch techniques I've read here break at the start line, and rev to 1000-2400 RPM, then release the brake and roll onto the gas for launch. I tried revving up towards 2000 and the car was too hard to keep from inching forward. Plus the rear end was making funny noises - creaks and ticks. It just didn't seem good. So I lauch at 1000 RPM. No creep, no noises. I could proably get a little better times by pushing it, but I don't see any advantage in beating up my car. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what it seems like to me.

I've broke out twice because I can't figure out what my car is going to run once the weather changes by a few degrees. I've been averaging almost 2 tenths quicker than qualifying. I don't want to look like a sandbagger either. Actually the points races have a red light rule, if the starters see your brake lights at the finish you get one warning and then disqualified. I think it's good and keeps bracket racing honest.
I was going to ask you if used one. For some reason I figured you did.
