Default Racing question # 1

What is required as a roll cage for scca stock or production class. Will the double loop system pass tech?

Mark

P.S. I will be doing additional single questions to tap the knowledge here. Maybe others are waiting for the answers but not asking.

If you have a roadster, the short answer is NO. Been there, done that..here's what I was told at inspection. Lay something straight like a broom stick on top of your windshield frame extended to the top of the roll bar loop. Now sit in the seat, helmet on. The broomstick must clear the helmet by 2"....my old *** has shrunk to 5'7" and I can't do it...good luck
I guess if you want to change out to a racing seat, and lower it down to the floor level, you could pull it off...but I'm not doing that to my cars...don't like to do the round track that much anyway...but, the roadster won't work in the NHRA Stock class either, because it is too fast, and would require a full cage...so, I just go do test and tunes for times only. My coupe isn't a problem for either...

Thanks....

Sounds like they clearly are looking for standards to be followed. I do have a coupe but I will assume the issue of clearance from the top of the helmet will still be required. I will have to do a seat as I am 6' and with a helmet....taller. That brings up the next question that in stock or production classes if a seat can be changed out and I would assume 4 or 5 point belts are needed?

yes, seat can be changed out, and although some don't require it, at least a 4-point just to keep you firm in the seat...lol...Harnesses are cheap investments, under $100...

I think the seat is a given due to my head clearance issue. I will probably see what if any requirements SCCA may have. I think I will run up to a local area where they do solo and pick some of the brains up there too. Real goal is next season but might try a solo.

Thanks for the info......I am sure I will have more questions.

Thanks....I went to print this out but my printer is too primitive. Time to see if my admin has some spare time on her hands with the good printer!! Good thing she is a good sport.

It was very easy racing bikes to understand your limitations and what you can and cannot do. Also the classes you run was easy to understand. Hopefully it will start to click for me and I can enjoy it at the same level.

A good admin NEVER has spare time...................they make time.
