Success with SRT wing on a Limited (electrical)
Success with SRT wing on a Limited (electrical)
I fgured this warranted a new thread, if not, move it!
Once you remove your active wing assy, remove just the motor from the assy (about 5 minute job). Replace all screws/ fasteners back where they belong so if you decide to go back with the active wing, you will have all the parts.
I partially wrapped the motor in padding and installed it using wire-tyes as you can see in the pics. There are many ways to mount this, as long as the motor shaft is free it will work. I found that the motor must be connected in the circuit so the BCM can read a signal to be sure the motor is present and within working range.
Next I had to wire it so the BCM had a signal that the "up limit switch" was activated or closed. The easiest way I saw to do this was to use a Tap-it connector. It is not in the outside elements so it should be ok. I know there are better connectors. You decide how you want to do it.
**** Here is the most important part I learned and overlooked everytime ****
Once I started moving in the car to 15 mph, the motor started running. Because the BCM thinks the wing is in the UP position, it trys to lower it automatically. It will run for about 20 seconds then stop, and you get the flashing light. Well I stopped the car, turned it off and restarted. I hit the 'manual up switch' for the wing and the light never came on again. Now the BCM is fooled into thinking the driver wants the wing up always and it is getting that signal.
While driving, I hit the 'down' switch position, I heard the motor run, I hit the 'up' position and everything back to normal.
Now to get this thing up to 80 mph to check for the beep, but I doubt it will since it is showing no faults/flashing lights.
Any additional input would be greatly appreciated.
James

Re: Success with SRT wing on a Limited (electrical)
Hi James,
I just bought an 04 - Red like your about a month ago and am very interested in the SRT6 fin addition. I have a few ads out looking for the fin and mounts but replies i have received are asking what seems to be insane amounts + the trade of my stock fin and motor. Can you give me a ball park of what the fin should cost?
Thanks!
