Default Pioneer AVH-3300NEX

Hey Peeps!

So I bought a Pioneer AVH-3300NEX head unit for my 2005 Crossfire Roadster (with the Infity radio). After some experimentation, I managed to get sound from it. However, if I turn the stereo up past about 14 (out of 40) it starts to distort horribly!! Anyone have any experience and/or ideas as to how to rectify it? I'm about 5 minutes from taking it to CarToys or the like....!!

Thanks,

Kris

I bought one as well but I have yet to install it. Let me know how it turns out.

Are you using the unit's internal amp, the Crossfire external amp or another non-factory external amp?

If using the internal amp:

- Do you have the rear speaker set up as such or for subwoofer? (This is a menu setting. Make sure it matches your setup. And if you are using a sub, make sure your wiring matches the proper ohm rating. Bad sound and other issues can arise if this is set incorrectly.)

- Are you running through the speaker outs from the unit, or via the RCA jacks? (Use the RCA's if going through any type of external amp.

This isn't an exhaustive list, but it should get you started.

Only use the RCA outputs if the radio's preamp levels are 4 volts or better, otherwise use the speaker outs to drive the Infinity amp.

I bet that’s it - I have the speaker outs hooked up but I think the Crossfire has a factory amplifier in it. I’ll switch to the RCAs today to see if that works.

If your car is not a 'base' model ( cloth seats, black windshield trim and engine cover ), then it has the Infinity amp.

It has the Infinity system. I'm thinking the speaker outs run through the HU's power amp and then that is going into the Infinity amp == distortion. Hopefully the RCA outs come from the pre amp into the Infinity amp. Cos I really like the HU. Fingers crossed........

OK, that was TOTALLY the problem!! At first I didn't realize the Crossfire has a factory amplifier in it. So I was effectively pushing the signal through two amplifiers before the speakers. Once I switched over to the RSA plugs the sound is PERFECT (ok, the doors rattle a LITTLE at high volume.....!).

Thanks for the pointers here folks. Hopefully someone else will get helped by finding this.

So we need to use the rca plugs only? I have the infinity system as well.

The infinity amp expects at least 4 v PTP input. If your head unit is one of those 2.5 volt PTP units, then you have to use the speaker ( amplified ) outputs from the head unit.
You will get some distortion, unfortunately.
The preamp output is just what it means - the signal BEFORE the internal radio amplifier.
( PTP means peak to peak BTW )

Bottom line, do your research and ensure the unit you are installing has 4v preamp outputs

Like I said earlier. I bought the exact same head unit as the op. SO I guess I will use the RCA.

Can't find the wire to power the amp on my pioneer harness. It's only the car aftermarket harness. Help XD

Did you use a power amp to power the crossfire stock amp? I barely get any sound. It's very thin and low even at max volume. I have the same headunit and this by using the rca plugs. I was told that it might be because my head unit doe not have a power amp.

If the radio specs say the pre-amp outputs are less than 4 volts, you should use the speaker outputs to drive the amp.

It's 4 volts. I have the exact same head unit.

I don't understand how you got distortion. Mine states that the power amp is optional. I don't get any sound from the rca wires.

I do not see mention of a Scosche adapter plug to connect to the OEM harness, are people using it and not mentioning it? It can connect the RCA pre amp outs to the infinity amp with no problem. Am I missing something? I used the same Scosche adapter on two different Kenwood head units.
I think someone should post the Pioneer wiring schematic and let someone show it connected to the OEM harness via a Scosche adapter. What we have now is totally confusing.

I need a power amp to power the infinity amp. What is weird is that the op said he could plug it in without a pre amp. We have the same head unit This thread was what made me confused
