From the Canadian (doubt if it's different) service manual...
STANDARD PROCEDURE - TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING

The Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter(s) can be programmed by the customer without special tools.
PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE

Transmitter programming by the customer is done by performing the following steps:
  1. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
  2. Press either the lock or unlock button momentarily twice.
  3. Turn the key in the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within 30 seconds.
HTH

Its all good I just got to the point where I figured that I would have to rip apart my old one to take guts out to get a new fob. Thanks for the input tho.

OK, I would like to swap out the insides of my old, beat up fob with a new one as was done here. Yours looks great. I"m reading here that they are just about impossible to open without damage. How did you open the new fob up without destroying it? It looks great.

When I bought my key the car programs the key. If i remember correctly you just try to start the car 5 times. Check your service manual. If someone here has one, it should confirm what I told you. More than likely the keys can be programmed once.

That's a pretty darn cool job of swapping out the guts of the fobs. I would have never thought of it. Saves some time and frustration with dealerships.

I just got a few Flathead screwdrivers small. I pried it apart starting at the top right next to the clear red plastic piece. I did have to break some of the plastic under the battery cover because there were no good pry points in that area and to much glue. It broke half way in the battery circle but once I did that I could fit the circuit board in. When you put the key in there is a spring you have to wind to get the key to flip open but other than that I just put little drops of super glue here and there and you really can't tell it had been broken under the battery cover.
