I have a 2005 SRT-6. I had the tracking set under warranty as my tyres were feathering on the edges badly. I notice the other day if I turn the steering half a turn or more, I have about 1.5 inches of play in the steering wheel before the wheels move. Also if I shake the steering in the central position from side to side I have a slight clunk like a worn rack or ball joint. I have only done 4,000 miles so would be very surprised at this. Is this normal for the crossfire, or should I get it checked ?

i had the identical issue with mine...

there is a bolt/nut on the steering rack that has slightly loosened... this will have to be tightened (thanks to the dealer).

then all is nice and tight again w/o any slop in the rack or steering wheel.

 

Thanks I will mention this to them on Saturday when I am popping in to seeing the Mechanic. I hope they can do it while I wait and I won't need to book it in etc...

 

Went to the dealership yesterday. They put my car on the ramps and have diagnosed that I need a new Steering box and drop arm. Now I am booked in for these to be replaced on thursday and friday next week.

Shame it wasn't just a loose nut as they now need to dismantle the front end and they have graciously told me they have never seen an STR-6 before.

Does anyone know if the tracking settings are different for the SRT-6 ?

 

I'm having the same problem, guess i'm gonna have to go back to the dealer.

 

Although the dealership had never seen an SRT-6 before, they did say they have replaced 1 Crossfire steering box before, so at least they have had some practice I suppose...
