This is a very easy fix. The sensor is on the back of the engine, drivers side, just above the bell housing. One E10(?) torx bolt. Depress the connector latch on the top, passenger side, of the connector and pull it off. With a 10" or 12" extension you can reach the torx bolt and undo it. Dont drop it! Then just pull the sensor out, slide in the new one and put the bolt back in and reconnect the cable. I'll have to look up the P/N.

edit: Napa part number is CSS9028. This is the same sensor, just dosent have the MB star on it, and cheaper.

 

No it wont blow up either... you are safe to drive it.

make sure to buy the Bosch
BOSCH 0 261 210 170 | OEM 003 153 27 28

You can take it out with 1/4 inch socket 1/4 inch drive

Do it after the engine cools down or bring it by the pad and I will change it for you

just a note, everything is metric...you can get by sometimes with SAE, but everything is metric...use an e-10...

Now I just have to decide who to install it. If I wasn't so damn scared to drive the car I would take "SpeaksforAll" up on his offer.

Maybe if we met at your local Starbucks or someplace closer (so your engine is not so hot) I could just put it in real quick. Takes about the same amount of time it would take for you two gurls to grab us a frappy or iced coffee.

My Crossfire is in the shop right now should have it back tomorrow. Sill dealing with the P2096 and P2099 codes.
They are bringing in a Crossfire Mechanic to look at it in the morning

Car seems to be working so far, I will probably need to drive it some more to make sure though.

OK... bought a new sensor. A Bosch as recommended here. When I started the car up after the install I am still getting the Crankshaft Position Sensor A circuit malfunction error code the P0335 one. Any ideas. I have tried clearing the codes from ODB II and it just comes back. Is there another way to mildly reset the ECU.

Like put it in gear, put up the rear wing. sound the horn three times.Put AC/DC cd in. turn your head to the left and poke your tongue out type scenario

Any help would be appreciated. Only two stealerships in sydney competing against each other to see who can rip people off the most.

All good. Took the car for a blat and put the ODB II back on. Reset and all codes cleared. You Little Beauty.

I think it was the AC/DC cd that did it.

 

I was having the same problem but I wasn't getting a check engine light. What was happening was it also didnt want to go out of park after 5 mins it would release from part then it would not shift out of first gear. Chrysler just gave me the car back saying they couldn't figure it out. So i decided to figure it out my self after talking to a few people it had (jerry from let) narrowed it down to either the crank position sensor or the cam position sensor. so i checked the price of the crank sensor and found out at my auto parts it was only 56.00 so i picked it up and 2 hours latter (that dam six point bolt u can't see lol) its working perfectly no more problems no sounds perfect fit. So thanks to the people on this site for helping me figure it out.

This "star socket," is that like any hex socket or is that specific to Mercedes and their star logo they put on everything?
If it is specific to Mercedes do I have to buy it from them?

Thanks for listing the NAPA part number for the CPS. We already re-soldered the points on the RCM, but that didn't fix the "not starting" issue. Hopefully I'll find one here in San Antonio so my husband can replace it and get me back on the road.

Sure hope this works. I'll let y'all know tomorrow evening. I've got to get my XFire running again so I can get my cool back.

 

Thanks for the tip. I just ordered mine. At this price, even with express mail it's cheaper than the NAPA supplier who had to order out of Dallas. Hopefully, we'll get it ASAP and have my car up and running in no time.
