Guys, what was the name of the shop his car was at?

I live in DFW and might have to do some spying.

He said he was going to do it at a friends shop down the street from him. I always had the impression he was near downtown. He seemed to have contacts around Park Place MB (old location).

Here's a wacky idea:

Get an LS7, rip out the old ECU or run a piggyback (yes, they're not that effective, but we'll work it out along the way. If we didn't, it wouldn't be called tuning), drop that mo fo between the fenders, and start it. Get some wide-*** tires in the back, go out and kill AMG's with good ol' Uncle Sam hiding under the hood. Laugh until you bust after the guy driving that SL63 realizes your "stock" Crossfire isn't actually stock.

You don't need ABS, you don't need traction control. All you need is common sense and keep in mind that the road is not the track.

Any questions?

Wow! Just ran into this thread and eagerly started reading every entry only to get to the end and find out it's DEAD!
Also was surprised to see my car's previous owner mentioned, dontxme. I bought his SRT and it's stock. If he had a Limited with the startech engine he never mentioned it nor did he have one when I was at his house picking up the SRT.

the only thing holding back such a modification are the tuners, they will not program the Bosch ecu to run a V8 in the crossfire.

must be some kind of legal issues with Benz. probably don't want to see any crossfires smoking SLR's on the autobauhn.

Definitely a possibility. I doubt any carmaker would be too inclined if the bargain bruiser put the hurt on its half-million dollar "supercar."

I also just found this thread as well. One thing I wonderd about was the front sway bar. It's very close to the stock V-6 oil pan and the V-8 is two cyls longer. Will it's oil pan clear the sway bar or is that a potential problem? Guess it hasn't been answered because nothing new has been posted for a long time.

Use heat shrink, goes on first, and solder the leads, no problem as no sensors are low ohms, many are in the 10,000 range and a splice thats soldered should add less than a single ohm. Not acid core please. Avoid crimps like, hello whats that a loose wire?????? I add two layers of heat shrink and sleep well.

Wired up Woody

you can try buying a v8 benz and install all the engine, wiring harnesses, and RF key ring into your crossfire, not a guarantee.

only Startech can do this and they have to insall the engine and do all programming, it's cheaper to buy an SL500 and start there..

About the LS motor idea. It could be done quite easily. Do the custom mounts and get the dry sump oiling system form the vettes. then get megasquirt and piggy back it off of the crossfire ecm. and done. crossfire keeps its functions and megasquirt controls fuel and spark

mega squrt is too time consuming to deal with, get a name brand ecu that an actual enging dyno shop knows how to program.

LS7 in a Crossfire - that is an awesome idea. Thought about it myself too.
My only hangup is the Chevy V8 in a Chrysler....maybe I should think of it as a MB on second thought and not worry about it. The LS7 is great engine - very efficient and very powerful.

An LS7 with a Cam, tune and LT headers is good for about 600HP. That would wake a Crossfire up - even an SRT6....what a helluva ride that would be! I would love it!!!!

I also agree with the above posts, you don't need TC or ESC although ABS can be nice, but I would gladly do without if it meant I did not have the other two nanies as well. That has always been my biggest grip with the SRT6 is all of the electronic nannies and pain-in-the butt to tune ecu. It doesn't like a change in gear ratio, dynos, or a host of other things. It works damn hard to maintain the status quo....I personnaly would like to give it an out-of-body experience and show it the bottom of my trash can!

....just my $.02

Cheers,
KrzyFast

I still think the crossfire looks like it was born to house a hemi and would have sold like crazy if it came with one.

LantanaTX posted a new thread to the forum about a week ago; first in a long time - but doesn't seem very eager to re-visit this thread and finish the story...
