Question P0410 - Secondary Air Injection Problem

Greetings, I am the proud new owner of a 2004 Crossfire Coupe and also a new member to this forum. A few days after getting the car I noticed the check engine light came on, I brought it back to the dealership I bough the car from (an Acura dealer) and they said that I had a P0410 code which meant that there was a problem with the secondary air injection sensor. They told me that this was nothing to worry about, that it was a common problem in Crossfires (which I have read quite a few postings about already), and I believe them in the sense that my car does run absolutely fine, however, it is extremely annoying and for a $15,000 car having to deal with the persistant annoyance of a check engine light gleeming at me is unacceptable.
To cut to the chase, I was told that it was 100% problem within the software itself and that they would get back to me when they were able to fix the problem. I am ready to take the problem into my own hands and need your help. Has anybody else had this problem and done anything to fix the problem? I heard about a case where somebody with an SLK had a p0410 and just needed to spray down the MAF... any suggestions??

The problem is very common. The relay module under the ECU is the main thing that goes bad. After they replaced mine the problem went away.
Good luck

Hi Arnotm1,

YES...But do not touch the MAF. It's not part of this problem.

This is the cheapest and most likely fix for the P04110 CEL...they replaced 4 other components on my crossfire...before we finally got it solved with this fix.

The little BLUE check valve #12 in the illustration is a known issue with the Secondary air injection system. It is prone to sticking closed. This check valve is between the vacuum control solenoid and the diverter valves which allow fresh air to flow to the exhaust. When this valve is stuck it can not open the diverters. This sets the P0410 code, due to the O2 sensors not seeing a change from the fresh air being injected. Hope this helps.

Part #05096374AA. Right (passenger) front corner of the engine, under the engine cover. Bright Blue valve in the vacuum hose. If you change it yourself pay close attention to the position of the arrow (molded into the plastic) it indicates direction of flow.

Hey guys! I need to replace my secondary air pump on my Crossfire SRT6. It’s definitely done because I turned off my engine and I heard that it was still on and making some intense noises. I opened the hood and saw that it was smoking! Anyways, I was wondering if someone can send me some recent/active links of the part needed? I know it’s Mercedes Benz part number 0001403785 and the OEM is by Bosch but I’m seeing so many knock off brands with reviews saying that they only worked for a few months before they died. Anyone have a trustworthy source?

ECS Tuning has them but their not cheap. E-bay has used ones? I think I would trust a used one before a knockoff.

Thanks! Do you know if this is the correct one for my 2005 Crossfire SRT6?
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-bosch-pa...001403785~bos/

The fit says it fits the Mercedes Benz SLK320 but not the 230 or 32 amg models. I figured it would fit them all? 🤔

If it was still running after you shut the key off, you BETTER be ordering a new RCM as well.

I would call ecs tuning to be sure and what Pizza guy is saying is the RCM effects the secondary air pump.

Yeah the secondary air pump was definitely still running AFTER I shut the engine. Ugh, so you think I'll need a new RCM too? I was hoping it just needed some resoldering and I could possibly send it to @tighed1 for the soldering repair. Any reliable source for a new RCM? Or anyone on this forum have an extra that I could buy? I'm in the NY and Philadelphia area.

Same question on a secondary air pump? Anyone on the forum have an extra one that I could buy?

Thanks in advance!

Just to be clear, if the relay for the air pump in the RCM is 'welded' shut due to excessive current 'tack' welding the contacts closed that relay has to be replaced as a minimum. The suggestion that DG repair your RCM is the least expensive option and those who have had theirs done are happy with the results. Others have purchased a new RCM and sent DJ the old one to overhaul as a spare (I like that option, a spare). Just an FYI for the air pump running after shutting off the car (since the relay is not 'releasing').
