Basket Ball in trunk sound
I have an 04 Xfire 6 speed with 14k miles on it. I just bought it from car max and I noticed that sometimes when I'm shifting from 2-3, i get a low thud sound coming from behind me. It sounds like a basket ball in the trunk.
It doesn't happen all the time but does occur when I shift from 2-3 or from and hi gear to nuetral, so basically when I push in the clutch.
What would be causing this? My driving style or the car?
Oh and hi, I'm new to these forums

This is going to sound silly but I'll bet money that it is the problem and the fix. Problem: thud in the rear end, not always but sometimes.
Cure: your passenger side window sometimes, or in my case, always goes up too high. Poor calibration. All I do is open it a tad, not enough to let any air in but just enough so that it clears the weather stripping. It simple does not happen any more. Problem solved. Try it and you will see.

1. remove everything from "trun" and behind and/or under seats. test drive.
2. if problem not eliminated, do a visual check under rear of car for worn bushings at ends of shocks, stabilizer and links.
3. With car on a lift or on JACK STANDS, try moveing rear wheel back and forth with car in gear (IGNITION KEY REMOVED)
4. If cluking is heard, check U Joints. wheel studs etc.
5. Check tail pipe, up to and including cat-converter for tightness. (Make sure they are cold).
6. If all else fails, look for basketball (sorry)
