Default Click/Thump Noise & Fuel Indicator

Hello All - I have an '05 SRT-6 with about 17,000 mi. It has had a weird noise for some time and I am hoping others can advise as to whether they also hear it or know what it is. The noise is best described as a moderate click/thump, which may happen every 5 to 10 seconds. It seems to come from the rear and is heard when warm, stopped, in drive, with foot on the brake. However, I am experimenting with other scenarios such as being in neutral etc. I will advise of updates in this regard. The above being said, can you offer any help? Everything appears fine, but the noise just doesn't seem normal.

I'd take it to my local dealer, but they seem to damage my vehicle every time they work on it. On that note, if anyone knows of a good service department anywhere in AL or GA, please let me know. You wouldn't believe the stories I have accumulated.

Additionally, while I'm requesting advice, does the red portion of your fuel guage (empty area) illuminate when your headlights are on? Mine doesn't and my dealer says that's normal. This just doesn't seem right, since the other red areas of guages light up.

Thanks for any help!

I just finished further searching the forum and found the link below.

It appears that this noise may be coming from an emissions valve, which is normal.

Can anyone confirm same?

I've had good service from Carl Gregory in Columbus, GA.

I have had this issue since shortly after I got my Crossfire. It would come and go. Recently, the noises were very loud , very often and very scary and only while stopped at with my foot on the brake. If I put the car in neutral, it would not happen. I don't understand the correlation, but that is what stopped it. I had my Crossfire in the shop lately to get the ignition replaced ($$$) and the brake switch replaced. While it was there, I figured I needed an oil change. (I was overdue.) So I got that done also. When I got the car back, I noticed it has not made the thumping sound for 3 weeks. (Knock on wood!) It had been making the noise while stopped at red lights for the past 2 or 3 months, almost every light. The only thing I can figure is the oil change may have done the trick, or maybe it will start happening again soon.
