Default Installing Paddle shift?

Does anybody know if its possible to install a paddle shift on the steering wheel?

I have a automatic crossfire, and as you know it's possible to change gears with with pushing the gear ****.

This feature should be right and left next to the steering wheel. (Like in a M5 or M6)

Is it possible to do something like that?

We were working on something like this but the problem is that first off, they don't make anything that is compatible with the hub on our steering column and second, the gear shifting is impedance based meaning complex wiring and timer relays if you want to tap into the shifter.

Why would it be hard to wire in a set of paddle shifters?
Since the car already has the manual mode, you should just need to wire in two buttons, one for the upshift, and the other for the downshift, and tap them into the wires in the center console.

I think the hard part would be to create a decent set of paddle shifters.

BC.

The wiring would be on par with that of a keyboard from a computer, multiple commands sent across one wire based on impedance changes in the circuit. The shift wire is just that, one wire. It sends a signal telling the PCM the you want to upshift or downshift. It's not like a regular switch that when the circuit is closed, it sends power through. Another thing you'd have to take into account is that it employs staging so when you hold it, it goes back into drive mode, when the switch is held down, it builds up to a point and then sends another signal that the transmission should go back to auto mode.

I'd pay up to $X.XXX if there is a way to do that. But not sure if that really works:

"It does NOT work with airbag steering wheels and should never be used in street driven vehicles that came equipped with airbags from the factory."

I have a modified Crossfire (No SRT), but it would be a very good feature though. You could shift to gear 1 from 2, you know .. you would have a lot of fun. It would feel like a real sports car.

What I actually meant with "real sports car" is the way to shift, I didn't mean the car. It just feels more “sporty” with a paddle shift.

Exclamation Re: Installing Paddle shift?

For what it's worth. I was talking with a driving instructor guy a few weeks ago who had sold his (auto) C55 AMG and bought a Tiptronic Porsche Boxster (986). He hates the paddle shifters on the steering wheel in the Boxster and wishes he had a tranny that he could smack the stick on like he had in the MB. The Tiptronic system apparently doesn't give him the shifting flexibility of the MB tranny system like we have in the auto Crossfires. Greener grass comes to mind.

90% of the time there are soo many cars in front of me I can't even break 65 mph. so agan what's the point unless you take the car to a race track, not a drag strip. ? I see no point to it, American roads suck, that's why most sports cars are imports.

What exactly would a paddle shift buy you besides poseur-power?

I wouldn't blame anyone for not liking the porsche paddleshifters, they rotate with the wheel making turning and shifting a PITA.
In my opinion I would prefer the ferrari style that remain static as the wheel turns...but I have a lowly base model so I'll just play with my stick.

Ironic, I have been looking into this for several weeks now and you are correct.

I was hoping it would be as simple as a neg pulse up and one for down however that is not the case.

The shifter is integrated through canbus. Well there goes the easy aspect about adding it (read.. cheap)

Still possible however, still one of my goals.
