I may not own a Xfire yet, so I haven't had a chance to 'feel' the 'lag' yet.

But I'm going to tell you from my experience driving turbo cars for many years and a carburated bike, that 4/10ths of a second you can feel. Why do you think so many people complain about 'turbo lag'? That can be cut to less than 4/10ths of a second and it's still noticable.

As someone previously mentioned, if you are heel toe shifting, then 4/10ths is a BIG deal.

Also, if this concept didn't work for some to change the 'feel', then why are throttle cams sold by the ton for bikes?

I think at this point there seems to be a perceived debate over whether or not it enhances performance. That has been imperically proved wrong. The manufacturer doesn't even claim imporved performance.

Basically it boils down to if you like the feel with it, then it's worth the money. If you can train your foot to drive differently and compensate for it, then the money isn't worth it.

Hands, I think you have done a good job of illustrating to all of us what it does and dosen't do. At this point it is up to the consumer to make his/her own educated decision as to whether they want to purchase one or not.

Ok, everyone hold hands and sing Kum-By-Ya !!!

It's been my take on this forum that appox. 98% of the skeptics after driving a car equipped with the SB went out and bought one. So unless you've been there and done that.....all the white papers and graphs won't convince any SB proponant on this site !

Drive one....then leave an opinion !

And that's just my Dos Centavos !

I found with the AutoStick, I can just manually downshift (or shift into 1st from a stop) and the throttle becomes so responsive that I can snap your neck back and forth just punching the throttle hard on-and-off.

Seems the Autostick Crossfire comes with this feature built in. The "D" must have been ment for little-ol'-ladies that drive their C32 to church on Sunday.

It's really like the clapper - you know; that clever little device that turns your lamp on with the clap of the hands. "Clap-on...Clap-off - - Clap-on...Clap-off.

Some folks just thought that was the most wonderful gizmo ever invented (and it sold real well by the way) others thought it was great joke......
but if you hurry and call the number on bottom of your TV screen right now - we'll double your order - you just pay the extra shipping and handling.........

Keep taking lessons - you can buy a used C152 for around $15K - use it has your trainer - then once you get your license and your ready to move up to higher performance plane; you can sell it for about the same price and save on plane rental costs. (plus their great on fuel with a slow Vs and Vr)

The avitar is a club aircraft (C177 RG) based in Palo Alto, CA.

There's a bit more too it than that, Brian. Check out the whitepaper on it. I think Mike posted it in his other thread.

It seems to have some more logic to it that just a flat signal amplifier. It appears to compress the first 70 or so percent of the throttle into the first 30 percent of pedal travel. The rest is evenly distributed over the rest of the pedal travel. So you don't reach WOT any earlier than having the pedal depressed all of the way. Don't quote me on those % numbers, as its been over a year since I read the whitepaper.
So I have read the white paper and the SB is nothing more than a linear amplifier with 1.428 gain. There is no nonlinear part of the equation. It produces a signal of 100% throttle to the ECU at 70% throttle position. 100/70 = 1.428. There is no change above 70% throttle position.

I spent a few minutes this morning and designed my version of the SB. When I have a chance (trout season opens this weekend), I will build, install, test and post drawing, pictures and instructions, if it works or doesn't.

I haven't looked into sourcing the connectors, so I will probably hard wire the prototype. If any one has info on the connectors, I would appreciate any help. With the connectors I could build a nice plug in unit like the SB.

I chose a fairly expensive dual op-amp ($7) so I'm looking at around $12 in parts without connectors.

Kurt

I will be waiting anxiously for the outcome of this project.
Kurt you have your priorities right, tight lines. Trout season opens here this Saturday as well and with this warm weather the streams should be busy. It's time to stretch those lines and sort out the flies, at last.

You might be able to cheaply integrate your prototype into the actual foot pedal assembly without the need for connectors. It's easy to remove and not to expensive to replace.

I would humbly suggest that you use two op amps in your design. That way if one IC or circuit failed, the other circuit would still supply the ECU with a throttle position signal. The SB is a single-point-of-failure device.

Also, if you can vary the gain with a three position resistor or a variable resistor - that would be sweet. Say 1.2, 1.35 and 1.5.

Good luck...
