rhythmic vibration
About 5,000 miles after I put the 275/30/19 Exclaim UHPs on the rear I had a major blowout at 80+ & had to put a new Exclaim on as a replacement.(hollow metal straw-like thing about 2 inches long punched a hole right thru the center of the tire) There is maybe 2-3 32nds difference between the 2 rears.....but I can't imagine the tread depth difference between the 2 could be causing the noise?? So one of them has 17,000 miles on it & the other has only done 12,000 miles.
OK - well I have been going through hell with this. Put on new Michelins last year and they never could get the vibration totally out at 50-70MPH - went several places, just lived with it. Just put new Hankooks on and the issue was worse, They changed one of the tires. They checked the wheels and anything they could think of. I finally went to a custome wheel shop with a pretty serious road force balancer and they got it out - most of the time. It is so strange, but it seems like it gets worse when the air conditioning is working. When they are cool (tires) they are wonderful. I go to work in the am and hardly feel it. Leave office in afternoon and as soon as I pull onto highway the steering wheel starts junping back and forth. Have repacked the bearings. Have changed brakes and rotors...it is the most annoying thing I have ever experienced on a car.
I have a similar strange vibration problem too. Mine occurs around 70-80 mph - give or take 5. The strange thing is that it isn't a constant vibration. It happens every 3 or 4 seconds. It seems to start at the front of the car, and kinda like a shudder - passes back through the car, almost like it is going out the back. A few seconds later it happens again. Over and over.
I figured it was my tires. My rears are Sumitomo's and they're shot (the center 3-4 inches of tread is bald). And my fronts are Advans, and the inside edges are bald.
What would cause just the inside edges of my front tires to be bald? Does it have to do with the vibration? I dunno. I'm getting new tires in a couple weeks anyway.
What is road force balancing that you guys mentioned?

Started getting the 75-80mph rhythmic vibration a few weeks ago. As others have noted, it varies from day to day. Yesterday it was shaking so bad I thought I had flat tire.
Has anyone who experienced this found a solution?

I was able to eliminate most of my issues by going to a custom wheel shop who puts out a lot of the 19-22" custom wheels and tires. My dealer recommended I go there - they send all their cars there now when they need balance - this shop has a really nice balance machine that apparently no one else wants to invest in, or they know how to use it better....but my driving has been as smooth now as it was new (except for some kind of weird times. Like after work when I first pull onto the highway, not always but once in a while, the front vibrates out of the blue. It is very weird.) But 99.5 % of the time it has been great, and I have had everything checked...the regular tire places and the dealers could NOT get the balance right. Good luck with yours. Make sure someone checks your tires to see if they have flat spots or are "out of round"...I've had that happen in the past on other cars. I am using the Hankook tires which I really have been happy with - this is my second set and they ride so much better than the Conti's, or the Michelin Sport
