Default Running Mobil-1 10w30?

So money is a bit tight right now and i happen to have about 12 quarts of the stuff sitting in my garage. Crossfire definitely needs an oil change.

Im wondering if its ok to run a heavier weight oil since i know our motors have high oil pressures to begin with

Probably not a great idea, especially in the cooler part of the year.

Considering the cost of your car and engine, I wouldn't skimp on the oil. You can often find Mobile 1 0W 40 on sale. Advance Auto currently has 5 quarts Mobile 1 plus a Mobile 1 filter for $27.99. Sorry, but the Mobile 1 filter won't fit the Crossfire. Be sure to get a "fleece" (synthetic fibers) filter.

Oil is the life blood of your Crossfire.
Save a few bucks to use a different grade oil ???

10W-30 Mobil-1 would be too thick in cold temps and too thin in hot temps. Just stick to 0W-40 Mobil-1.

I wouldn't use the 10w30 by itself. You might get away with 'blending' it with 6+ qts of 0w40 or 5w40, depending on what you can find in your area. Either one of these is recommended for the XFire. (Note: The 5w40 ESP Mobil 1 is actually better than the normal 0w40 Mobil 1.) But even doing this is risky since M-B specifically states that Mobil 1 10w30 doesn't meet the requirements for high temperature high shear strength needed for the 3.2 liter V6. (see attached)

Another possibility is take the 10w30 qts you have back to your local car care store and ask to swap them out for the correct 0w40 or 5w40 Mobil 1. It's not like you're bringing them something they can't sell. Tell them you got caught in a car upgrade and the 10w30 isn't suitable for your XFire. They most likely will let you do this. Then you're really out nothing (except maybe a restocking fee) to do the oil change.

Later,

well i know the guys at the local autoparts store, so it was all good.
only thing that sucks is mobil 1 doesnt offer 0w40 in the 4-5 quart jugs.

I got my oil at Walmart and filter and o-ring at Advance auto. Doing it myself cost $60-some dollars.

More than an oil change usually costs, but not TOO bad, even for a poor guy like me.

I found that the bosch filter is identical to the oem in every respect, comes with o-rings for 13 dollars.
oil is still like 8 a quart though :/
