I sure hope that 2003 320 SLK Brakes are the same as the Crossfire. I just ordered "Greenstuff" pads from Tire Rack. I'm really over the daily wheel cleaning. Not to mention all of the instant detailer I go through getting all the black dust off the car. Under $70.00 a pair w/ shipping. Not bad :P

I should have them by Friday. I'll install them Friday evening so I can see just how well they work during Sunday's Autocross. Sunday evening I'll let you know what I think.

Should be the same pads. I'm getting tired of the brake dust also. It's funny the brakes have almost no drag when you spin the wheel on the lift.

These stock pads are like the pads I had on my '69 BMW 2002 turbo tap, when I was stationed in Germany. They are extremely soft. That's why I had to just step out and take a chance that the SLK pads would be the same.

Thanks for the info. I can't wait to see what it's like to drive 2 miles and not have the front wheels covered in dust.

WMichaels,

Another thing to consider is the tire dressing you're using. I used Armor All and a few others, including gels. They all attracted dust like a magnet.

Someone on another thread suggested "Wet 'n Black" by Turtle Wax. The directions say to spray it on but I use a sponge to apply it. So far I'm pretty happy with the results and it doesn't seem to attract as much dust as the other products I've tried.

Grant it, it's not the best shine I've had on a tire but it keeps them looking a nice color of black.

Keep us informed on your brake project. I too have had it with the dust.

Funny you should mention "Wet 'n Black" I picked it up about 2 weeks ago and I love it. It seems to last pretty well too.

Tire Rack sent me a tracking number and the pads should be here Friday. So Friday evening I'll be having fun w/ brakes. :P

Applied Zaino Z2 on my stock wheels, buff it then followed by Z6 Gloss Enhancer that bonds with the Z2. Z6 has an anti-static property that repels dust. All I need to do is wash my wheel with water and whaalaa...its clean and shiny. :-)
( I use Wet and Black on the side walls of my tires. )

P.S. Thanks to the forum anyway for the special tips.

SLK brakes are the same. I got the "Green Stuff" brake pads installed last night and I've put 104 miles on them and vitually no brake dust... YEAH!!! They don't fade and they grab very well. The proof will be Sunday. I'll see how they perform in the autocross. My guess is they are going to work great.

Crossfiretech was right once again The caliper bolts are 7mm allen-head bolts. Thanks for letting us pick your brain Crossfiretech. You really are quite an asset to this forum.

Yep... Tire Rack is the place and the P/N for the fronts is... "DP21075" I haven't done the rears yet. I wanted to see if I liked them on the front before I put them all the way around. At first I was affraid that having 2 different brake componds might upset the bias. But it doesn't. The car stops even better than before. With the stock pads, every now and then when coming to a slow stop you could feel a slight (nothing drastic) pull to one side or the other. Now I can let go of the wheel and she stops perfectly straight. The feel is much, much better. I Highly recommend.
