Default Removing center console

Ok guys, I had a goof up with the cup holder this weekend. I managed to punch a hole in my beverage thus spilling all the contents. None of it made it into the cabin... so it must have all disappeared into the console.

Has anyone taken the console apart before, and if so, where is the best place to start? Can this be easily done in a couple of hours

Thanks! ops:

De-trimming the interior is not a small task in this car. If you don't have above average mechanical skills, I would suggest bringing it in to have it done. There are electronics (yaw sensor.. etc for tractions control) under the console... so I would recommend cleaning it out.

Just an idea... whatever was spilled will have most likely dried by the time the car can be taken to the shop. If things are still working as advertised I'd let it go as is. (Superglue the cup holder closed... it's worthless).

Ahh... squeaky clean.

It was an easier job than I expected. At least, lots easier than my old car. The console comes apart in pieces and they are not interconnected. This way, you don't have to start at the top and work your way down.

It was Pepsi - and everything was a little sticky. Even my shifter was starting to stick. Things look good so far - and I'll definitely think about gluing the cup holder down. It is pretty useless.

dunno why so many bad-mouth the cupholder... it fits the 7-11 22 oz. Thermos-made coffee cup just fine, and I NEVER leave home without a cuppa joe in my hand. Granted, I wouldn't DREAM of putting any sort of paper, plastic, or styro cup in it! <G>

Yeah, it was the full fat version. But I'm pretty sure I've got the situation licked now.

And I ordered the travel mug off the chrysler website. Anyone know if that will fit the cup holder?

(Don't tell my wife I wrote this)...

Nissan Xterra started to balk going into gear. It got to the point where it would take 2 or 3 minutes of sawing effort to get it in gear. A little 'net research showed that there was a recall out on that problemc to the dealer it went.

Two days later the dealer called to tell it was ready for pickup. While there, the service advisor showed Lora her shifting assembly: It was a mass of dog hair and dried Coke/Pepsi. The whole thing had congealed into a yucky, glue-like mess. The advisor allowed the recall to pay for it, but noted that there was nothing wrong with it, just Lora's drinking habits and the fact that our dog throws fur like a sheep shearer.

Default Removing Center Console

When you removed the center console did you have access to the power window switches?

glennn,

You do not have to remove the entire center console to get at the power window switches. On the left side of the gear shift boot, pull up gently and it will come up. Then do the same for the section of console that held the boot in. It also comes up easily. Flip it over and you have access to the window switches.

Richard Myers made a post on the subject on 1-13 in this forum. He also posted a couple of pictures in his album.

Hope this helps... any more questions let me know.

I don't get this power window switches thing. Is there something wrong with mine?

The "front" of the switch has a window icon. If I push the "front" of the switch, the windows go up. If I push the "back" of the switch, the windows go down. This feels correct to me. Am I just whacky, or are other people's cars wired different than mine?

Some of the cars had the switches reversed... pushing on the top side of the switch made the windows go down. Likewise pushing on the bottom, the windows went up... which is *** backwards.

It's easy to fix yourself. Pry up the shifter boot and then pull up on the center section of the console the boot was attached to. Press the tabs on both ends of the switch and pull the switch down and out. Then the switches have to be reversed and the icon over the switch needs to be gently pried off and reinstalled after the switch was reversed. Reinstall everything and it will work the way it was supposed to...

I see. didn't understand cars had gone out wired two different ways.

I'm glad 1) that mine are right and 2) that's it a fairly easy fix if they hadn't been.

Default window switches

The power window switch operation was one of the first things I noticed about the car. Their operation is reversed from every other vehicle I've had with power windows. I guess it's a Euro thing. My hope is to pop the switches out of the settings and just turn them around. That was the reason for asking about access.

glennn... It's not a Euro thing. Some of the early cars were wired backward. My dealer fixed mine with no problem. I had it fixed when I had it in for it's first oil change.

Ok. Thanks.
I think I'll take a stab at it this weekend.
Appears fairly simple.
