Telephone mute characteristics
Does anyone know how to hookup a cell phone through the audio system (the "TP" button on the radio)?
The manual says "If a telephone with hands-free operation is installed, the call may be routed through the speaker system." And goes on to explain how to setup the audio system for "AUDIO PH - Telephone call via the car radio."
I would like to use this capability. Any ideas what I need to tell my cell phone company to sell me, and then how do I hook it into the radio? My dealership gave me a blank stare when I asked about this.

I must apologize- because I am a bit ignorant of any dealer add-ons that allow a hands free kit to go through the speakers. This warrants some research on my part. I do know DC now has blue tooth enabled vehicles- but I did not think (or see any mention) the CF was. I will post back with any findings.

Update...
I did indeed read the very same in the owners manual. The manual is not very clear on this at all. After talking with tech line, I have come up with the following:
from tech line... "...some vehicles are equiped from the factory with the 'UConnect' system. This should be available through Mopar accesories for all other vehicles"
So- firstly.. UConnect is Chryslers hands free phone system. Works with any blue-tooth enabled cell-phone. Then the call is automatically routed through the stereo of the vehicle. Secondly- I did not find the current accessory catalog listing the CF as having UConnect available.. This does not mean it is not available yet. The catalog may have been printed before the system was available for the CF. I have not yet contacted Mopar Accessories to see if the kit is available for the CF.
From what tech line has said- if you have the UConnect system, the radio can be set up as described in the audio controls section of your manual. If not- you can get it through Mopar accessories (although I have not yet verified its availability).

Although I don't have UConnect in my 2004 Dodge Durango, the manual is pretty extensive as to how to use it. The manual for my Crossfire only has the same thing yours does. I got mine in December '03 and my VIN is 008XXX.
The UConnect for the Durango also has a special mirror that contains the microphone and bluetooth electronics and is wired to the stereo to use a speaker for the phone.

Sorry- I didnt go into detail but, this is also true with the CF, as per the tech line.
Funny thing is- out of 14 vehicles we have had through my shop- not a one was equipped with UConnect. Tech line insists it is a factory option as they had one as a demo. It had the UConnect in the mirror as all other Chrysler cars do.

From what they told me- yes. But when I checked the catalog- It was not listed for the CF
I have not had the opportunity to call the accessroy line yet.. Been busy at the shop. (no- no broken CFs
) The Catalog was printed earlier- and hopefully does not reflect a lack of availability.. I will keep you posted after I contact accessory tech line!

Sorry it is not good news. After talking to the normal tech line- it looked optimistic that UConnect was available. A phone call to UConnect reveals it is not currently available for the CF. After checking the Chrysler website, it appears the gentleman at tech line may have been mistaken, for there is no UConnect option from the factory either.
I then proceeded to call my local training center and spoke with the CF instructor. He is aware of this concern and had the following to say-
The manual is misleading. The TP function should mute the radio for traffic reports, not for cell phone calls. UConnect is not currently available.. But may be available in the future. Currently no provisions exist for equiping a vehicle with this system.
Sorry I was unable to come up with a better solution. Manual turning down of volume will have to continue.

The traffic report function allows you to tune into a traffic reporting network (if available in your area.. broadcast radio) and then mutes the normal radio functions and announces traffic reports from a dedicated traffic report system. Similiar in idea to the billboard systems in metropolitan areas that warn of traffic jams ahead.
