The wheel speed sensors can theoretically be calibrated by changing their distance from the center of the wheel. The sensor in the ring gear might be a problem. If it is sensed by the computer as a voltage directly proportional to speed, it can be calibrated with resistors.

maybe if i get bored one day...
When I had a 2001 Cobra, it was impossible to launch without the back wheels bouncing up and down. The other problem was it had so much slop in all the U-joints that it made that sound like a freight train starting up when you backed off and on the gas.

Hi,

if you want move your diff so it will works from MB CLK 55 AMG W208 or E55 AMG W210, the diff from W209 or W211 will not fit in the body of Crossfire. The next point is that you will move the ratio in your gearbox pcm too,in the other way the ABS/ESP get a different rpm from wheel sensors and your ABS/ESP doesn´t work all time long.

In the attachment you will find picture from CLK 55 AMG W208 diff.

things i see immediatly are you will need axles. the slip in axles from the xfire wont work. add to this with the m/b axles they use a c clip and when installing a quaiffe or wavetrac you cant use that typr of retainer so a circlip has to be found. this is what has been slowing the wavetrac buy down was finding proper circlips for the slk32. the axles from the m/b will need to be machined slightly to receive the new circlips.
add the cost of the diff ,axles and quaiffe and it gonna get costly.
max have you investigated whether the quaiffe from the 208 diff will fit in the slk /xfire diff?

you know I am old school like a few others on here, but if were all that simple to replace the rear end, I would have had a 9 bolt Ford in there by now...or even a 12 bolt Chevy...so, I think the LSD buy is the way to go, with all this sensor crap....

i agree doc. i found the clk55 diff max is talking about used for 350$ but i cant find any application for the quaiffe for it. quaiffe only lists the w210 e55 , c32 and sl applications and the cost is 1395 for the lsd. it looks like it would fit but unless it was iun my hands theres no way to know for sure. the final gearing is different than ours also with a 2.82 final gear. if theres a 3.07 gearing out there in a w208 i havent found one yet

Kevin Bird keeps records of all Quaifes he installs and has record of installing one in the earlier CLK55 with a 3.06 rear end, so they do exist and the quaife is avalable. Kevin mentioned to me that you can't go from the Quaife site to verify applications becuase it is the Quaife distributors that commission units. bottom line is the CLK55/E55 rear will bolt in with the clk55 axles. the 3.06 did exist and the quaife unit is avaialble for it. What is not known is if the CLK55 rear is acutally stronger that the one we have. We have discovered that the Crossfire rear end was also used in the C43.

I think this is a good discussion to have so that we can learn more about our cars and the options we have to improve them. As continue to push the limits of HP and torque we will start breaking things and beefier options will be nice to have. I am getting ready to boost my V8 and I am very worried about the rear end. until we can change ratios, I am stuck with 3.27. that 3.47 that Kevin mentioned would be nice to find if we figure out how to change ratios.

This does sound quite promising. I've been pretty exciteable at the prospect of an LSD supplied so close to me, so apologies for hijacking your thread along those lines! I only run stock HP, so hopefully the strength should not be an issue for me!

Still more than happy to run my car in there if need be for you big power guys, if they need to see anything.

Regards, Andy.
