It probably would be louder and gernerate more hp, at the higher rpm band IMO. The tube would need to be fairly flat oval, as there is little room between the MAF sensor and the bottom of the hood. This shape would not the optimal design for moving air fast (although probably more efficient than the stock air box, which looks like might have chambers or baffles for noise control). I forgot, did someone actual dissect their air box to see the inner workings? I have my cover off the engine right now and it doesn't look like I can take it apart without ruining it.

There are no baffles. It's open from the filters to the throttle body intake.

Well that depends on the length and diameter of the ram pipe. A shorter pipe will produce gains higher than the engine can rev. A longer pipe with a smaller diameter will help midrange power.

since we are talking about mods...

One of the big wigs at Altron in Pontiac, a friend of my father, told me he saw a Roadster at the AMC in Sterling Heights Michigan.. BUT this guy had it REALLY tuned out!!! he knows what he is talking about and the guy told him all about this mod...

The car owner must have changed the engine or something cuz he had TWIN TURBO hooked up to this beast!!! with side pipes along the car!!! All chromed engine mods... lots of stuff!!! LOOKED AMAZING and he said it sounded sweet *** hell too!!!

I wanta know who this fella is! and I wanta see the stats on this Crossfire!!! its gotta be amazing! ... btw the Altron guy said the Borla is being released in June - July I'm on the list to recieve them directly once it comes out so i cant wait!!!!!

Default Air filter/intake kit

There's a big difference between the air filter and the air intake kit. I had the K&N air intake kit for my Grand Cherokee which replaced the entire stock system all the way up to the carbuerator with just a wide tube and a cone filter. The difference was like night and day. Imagine trying to run while breathing through a straw. That's what your car does with most stock air filter systems. That's why I posted my question regarding the air intake system for the Crossfire and whether it's similar to the K&N air intake system. Finally, I contacted K&N today and they said they do make tthe filter right now but not the air intake kit. Like others have said, the new filter can't hurt, but it's not even close to what an air intake kit can do for most vehicles.

If you look at the "Cold air kits" for most cars they are very close to what we already have. The major reason for installing a kit is to replumb the intake so you are geting air from outside the engine compartment (cold air). the Crossfire already has cold air intake. The only thing that I think could help would be larger diameter intake tubes and a better insulated cold air box. JMO

The thread at https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...pic.php?t=1853 describes the difference.

An aluminum intake tube would also be a benefit, and the removal of the airbox will increase the velocity of the air which would increase peak horsepower, too. So the stock box is really not all that close to aftermarket kits. Heck, I think every car's airbox in existance draws in air from the corner of the engine bay. It's bad for the engine to get hot air, it increases the chance of detonation.

I gotta' jump in here, because in my opinion this has gone from funny to mean. James may not drive a crossfire, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be able to participate in our forum, yes? He has made several worthwhile comments in here (one that comes to mind imediately is the link he posted debunking the myth of "back pressure" requirements).

You have to remeber that every time you dog on someone, someone else becomes afraid to post their question for fear of receiving the same treatment. It would be much better when James posts something we don't like to just roll our eyes (in PRIVATE, not as a reply post) and move on.

James, by the way - I raced an Acura RSX-S on the way to work today - it was awesome. At a stop light, both of us trying to get on the 101 freeway loop, the two lanes converge so the guy out front effectively wins the race - 3,2,1, BLAM we're off, I'm using the autostick's manual shift mode, I can tell by the jerkines of his car he's got a manual also...it was short race (just a freeway access ramp) but I won by three lengths

Good kill, XethW. The RSX Type Ses can run some really quick times in good hands. But a kill is a kill, and 3 car lengths is quite a good kill. Thumbs up.

I checked out the Coupe and the Roadster Crossfires at the dealership today on the way home. Their MSRP on the tag was $33,9. I was surprised, and that included some Giovanna chrome wheels (which I found distasteful, but those things are expensive). And that was the Limited model... no, wait, actually come to think of it I think it might have been a 2004 model, the Coupe I mean.

The Crossfire is definitely the most quality for the buck out of the cars of which I am looking. I've ruled out the BMW Z4, and that was the Crossfire's main competition for my buck. I'm not going to go out and jump on buying a new car. I looked at cars for 3 years before I decided on my RSX. I'll buy a new car when I'm ready, until then you'll just have to deal with the fact that I don't have a Crossfire in my garage. That doesn't mean I don't know the same or more about them, in some cases, than y'all. It just means you have the pleasure of driving one more often.

WhyTF does everyone take everything so seriously... Just cuz WM says that to James it doesn't mean he wants him to LEAVE *maybe* but in my case I know I just got torn into for some comments I posted... freedom of speech there guy... I'm not going to rip on someone for a question! thats completely okay... but NOS in a Xfire... its been asked before... hit search and learn.... and about the comment WM just did to James... lordy... it was a small notched comment.... without teasing and overall emotion on this site it would be BORING! ... people need to calm down and remember life doesn't always have to be cookie cutter... people are entitled to do as they wish as long as its not out of line... and what WM did was far from out of line... some of you grown ups need to grow up...

As I write this it is a warm 107 out, forcasted to hit 111 today. With a high ambient air temp and heat from the engine, do I dare drive for fear of detonation?????

Ask Wes. He suggested to me buying an intercooler to prevent detonation on a boost set-up.

(But here in Florida the gas stations do have 93 octane instead of 91 because of the summer heat.)

I never said any such thing!!! I never suggested you get anything except lost!!! You comment on everything here even things you have no clue about.

You are a Crossfire Groupie and that's that. I actually feel quite sorry for you. Wanting something you can't have.... No not the crossfire.... A BRAIN!!!

I wasn't talking to you..... If you want to be a James Fan that's your business. I am staying away from this forum because I personally don't like this little groupie. I will give you that he has made a couple of insightful comments here. But a couple out of hundreds??? I know I've come accross as harsh and to that all I can say is... Sorry about that. I know that I'm not the only one that would like to see this James guy leave. So instead I will just check in from time to time to see if there's anything good going on.

At least I have a Crossfire and have gone out and done the leg work and was the first to use Upsolute chipping and Green Stuff brake pads, which many of you are using now.

Enjoy listening to James (The Groupie) I'm way over it!!!
