Default Hood Adjustment

Tech question. My cf has had the hood replaced yesterday as there was a chip in the old one and the dealer agree to replace.

When I went to pick the car up I noticed that the hood gaps (between hood and finder) are not even.

Service manager and sales guy are scrating there heads and stated that they need to contact Chrysler for the adjustment.

To help maybe someone can assist on this forum so I can take the advise to the dealer.

I checked my Service Manual and there's nothing in it about ajusting the hood alignment. I will have to take a look at mine and see, but normally you can adjust the alignment at the hinges.

I checked the car and the bolts that attach the hood to the hinge can be losened to adjust the hood. Pretty much like any other car. I can't believe your dealer couldn't figure that out. Are they the ones that installed the new hood?

Is it an alignment issue or do you think it is bent?

It was shipped so it can happen!

How chipped was it? I am surprised they just didn't repaint it?

I Can believe dealer answer . It was 5:00pm when I pick up the car so I think it safe to say that the guys with the tools wanted to go home.

The chip was bad, through the primer and into the steel. Dealer recommended not to respray.

The hood is not bent, at least from what I can see just out of adjustment.

I will call the dealer for another appointment for the adjustment I tell them "Just like any other hood in fact give me the wrenches i'll show you how it's done."

That usually gets a laugh and a bit of coroperatiion.

Why would anyone replace a hood instead of sanding, filling, spraying your existing hood?!? Very bizarre!! Did your insurance actually cover this line of reasoning??? You said dealer agreed to replace?? Did they pay for it, and why if they did... Did they chip the hood? Must say- I am slightly perplexed at all of this.

Jamikest, The chip in the hood was found at the time that I first picked up the car.(at purchase) Wife noticed it. I am not saying the dealer did it, could have been done in transport, at the factory, who knows. Being that I just paid close to ’30k for it the dealer wanted to keep me happy so, they recommended that the hood be replaced.

Took two weeks befor the work was done.

As you are a ASE master tech I would appreicate if you could answer the adjustment problem. If you are facing the car the gap (between fender and hood) on the right is less than on the left. It is visable to the eye so I would say it is about a 1/8 out but, the strange thing is everything line up with the bumper.

I hate to say this... but my experience with body adjustments is extremely limited. I have the luxury of having an in-house body shop where I work. The following are body gap specs:
14 HOOD TO FRONT FASCIA 4 +/- 1.5
15 HOOD TO GRILLE 6 +/- 1.5

The following is hood install procedure:

With the aid of an assistant, position the hood on the safety hooks on the hood hinges.
Loosely install the lower bolts (2) on the hood.
Loosely install the upper bolts (1) on the hood.
Align the hood with the bolts (1,2) to coincide with the witness marks.
With the aid of an assistant tighten the hood hinge bolts (1,2) to the hood. Tighten to 10 N¥m (88 in. lbs.).

Install the gas prop rod (2) to the hood at the top then install the gas prop rod retainer (1).
Shut the hood and insure that the hood shuts properly and securely and that there is a uniform gap around the hood to the front fenders and grille.
Verify fit of hood to vehicle body. Adjust as necessary
