Default coolest engine cover yet!

OK, I recently posted in another thread about the engine cover I got off a MB e320 wagon. I sucessfully patched the gaping hole in the right side AND built up the entire right side so its almost the same as the left. Some gluing and patching and several coats of skim coat and it looks freaking awsome!

I ground off the mercedes-benz logo to give it a smoother look. Tomorrow it gets primed and if we have time, painted black. My friend's going to again real flame it with a few skulls for gee-wizz.

I love this cover cause I get the looks and can keep my cai hooked up

I didnt have a camera but this is sort of what it looks like

I like where you are going. Had I kept my car I was gonna do that. Look forward to seeing it when it finished. I couldn't make up my mind about the Mercedes emblem. I took of the lettering and painted it a textured black paint.
I also did the plastic cowel and the metal crossmember by the radiator in a really cool textured flex paint. It was inexpensive just very time consuming, lots of taping.

yes, getting rid of the lettering made the patchwork so much eaisier. Did you paint your intake manifold or is it the lighting in your pic? Im going to put the emblem back but have the flames laid out so it looks like the emblem is catching fire inside the flames. Our painter just did his mailbox with skulls in fire and it came out great. Going to try to work that into the cover as well without it looking to busy.

Mine was painted with a black texture paint. I tried a two tone look with the square where the letter were done in a gray color but I didn't like it. I did all the work myself. I tried to figure out what went in that hole at the front that you patched over. Took it to a Mercedes dealer and we looked it up and it was an oxygen sensor. There was no cap that filled the hole. I used a piece of PVC pipe and an cap, painted them black and it fit just fine. But I was after a more finished look, I was gonna patch it eventually just like you did. Instead I kinda got this new intake (has a new car under it).

If I remember correctly, the large hole was to accomadate the MAF sensor in the air intake tube. James

Yeah, I did a double take at your first pic and wondered if I missed something. The way you capped it off looks very good!

BTW your new ride looks like it will throw ya back in the seat SHARP

Thanks for the positive comments guys! Id take a pic of the underside but it isnt very pretty...epoxy, screen, odd bits of old bumper to reinforce where I cut out for the TB.

Again, Im happy I can run my cai all the time so now if I get some extra$$$ I can have eurocharge make it run better

Nice work! I assume that you don't have a CAI (such as a Needwings)?

It was early in the morning and I hadn't had enough coffee. I see the CAI on the other side now. I commented as the work is wonderful, but probably won't work if you had the NW CAI.

got lots of work completed on my cover. Here's a pic of the color, its deep black with red pearl.

heres a complete pic, I know it looks purplish but its actually red

heres the skulls and flames being laid out

This is where we afre so far. Im going to try to get him to spread the flames out wider but as with most painters he has a mind of his own so I have to resort to extensive and calibrated whining to get it my way. Yes, he's doing it for free so....

The cover looks great painted before the airbrush got to it. That would be awesome on an engine with matching paint of the car itself.

Can't wait to see it installed. James

I figured the flames would have a better effect on a black background vs blaze red. I added the red pearl to give it a hint of red. Believe me, when the light hits it the red pearl ignites and almost looks metalflakish.

I agree with James, and while the cover is not my taste, I can certainly appreciate good quality when I see it

Almost all done except for clear coat

I took a stab at the airbrush and stenciled out some more skulls

here they are painted

All done almost

I realize folks have different taste and am delighted in the various responses. Ive always been a fan of artwork like this, hence Ive both my full sleeves too. I have a few skulls etc on the car but not overloaded, just enough to entice the crowd at shows
