Auto Tranny Effective Life?
Hey everyone. Looking at a very high mileage (180K miles) Crossfire. Price as you may expect is very low, but I was wondering what is the realistic life of this Mercedes auto transmission?
I've gotten online and looked for even earlier models of the SLK 320 to see if I could find one, but 180K appears to be a record, at least of Crossfires and SLK's for sale.
Any ideas, and any idea the cost of replacement? I would guess I could swap a tranny from a lower mileage Crossfire that's been wrecked- -

My concern is with 180K miles, I should probably expect anything and everything.
I would think that with proper maintenance and normal driving, the tranny could last for a long, long time. The problem is that you never know what previous owners have NOT done about maintenance during its 180000 miles, and if they have driven it "hard" and mis-treated it. Proper transmission fluid and the correct filter and seals should have been used in the maintence. How would you know? Does the car come with documented paper work, showing the maintenance? Just my $0.02.........

If true, and most miles were on flat highway, the tranny hasn't been shifting back and forth nearly as much as with town driving. I think that's a plus.
There's just so much that goes wrong with these cars- - this one has just hade a new pcm put in- - it had the stopping issue. If I bought the car I would have 800 mile commute back home. I couldn't deal with that stopping all of a sudden issue if the pcm didn't really fix it.
I know 180K, I should expect anything. At the same time I don't really want something that's going to be a problem child every time I go out to start it.
