Starting Issue
I just purchased a 2005 Srt 6 Roadster. Drove it home 600 miles. It has been driven every day since (last 4 days) This morning it started right up. After a short trip I got back in and would not turn over. All of the electronics are working. I hooked up a battery charger/starting unit to the battery and it started right up.
After driving around awhile I went home, same issue will not start unless hooked up to battery charger/starting unit. I figured bad battery and bought a new battery...Installed the new battery same issue, will not start unless hooked up to a charge/starting unit.
I saw the discussion about the solder joints on the RCM. Why would it start only when hooked up to a charging/starter unit even with a new battery.
Any advice?

Could possibly be the RCM but I'd start by going over and cleaning up all the main ground connections. Start at the battery terminals and look for all ground straps going to the block and body in the engine compartment.
Thank you for your reply.
I did clean the terminal clamps, and ground screw from the battery to the body. no luck, any idea why it would start when hooked to a charger/starter unit? but not by the new battery alone?
I have not been able to get under the car to check the hot line/starter connection from the battery.

When I turn the key I hear a relay or switch in the area of the RCM box/wiring harness area. Nothing at the starter. But as soon as I hook up the charging/starter unit it cranks and fires every time.
I've never heard or seen anything like this before. I didn't know if it was something unique to the crossifire or not.
The car only has 37,000 miles on it and you can eat off the engine compartment areas. I was hoping it as something simple!

Put the key in, try to start the Eng. i get nothing. Turn the key back off, turn the key back on & it starts right up with no problem, shut the Eng. off, try to start it again & it does the same thing. Any one with any ideas??

Not to much to add, like i said i try to start it, it will crank then it dies so i turn the key off & then try it again & it starts right up. It will do this every time i get in & try to start it. It will not start on the first try.

Try replacing the fuel filter.
I don't think it's the filter. It won't drain back within 5 - 10 seconds. like i said. It's running & i shut it off & right away try to start it back up, & it will not srart the first try, Right away i turn the key off & try it again & it will start. I'm thinking it might be in the security system some where, like some one is trying to steal it. Thats why it won't start the first time. I don't know, got me stumped

I know you know about most things, but does this sound like you?

Maybe because of my recent experience w/my SRT I always think of the leaks in the back of the car. I had a lot of trouble starting my car and it ended up because of water getting into the trunk area and shorting out the central locking module. It is also hooked up to the alarm system and if it is damaged, it may prevent the car from starting. I would check any XF for leaks in the rear hatch area anyway. From my short time on this forum, it seems like water leaks there are a common problem. Especially w/the SRT under the wing. It wouldn't take long to check out and like I said, I would check for water leaks on ANY XF regardless if it is a NA or not. Good luck!
