Quick Quiz
I believe there are 18 valves in the engine as there are 6 cylinders. I expect each cylinder to have at least one spark plug.
Mercedes are slow to change to 4-valves per cylinder engines and I am only aware of Alpha Romeo to have two spark plugs per cylinder on their two valve per cylinder engines.
The fact you have asked the question make me wonder if a 'spark plug' could be used for other duties in the XF. Can't think of anything myself, and I don't carry any spares with me.

I've got the service manual but it doesn't really state how many.
One thing I did find though was the firing order. The firing order is: 1-4-3-6-2-5 so this would suggest there are 6 of them right?
I have the service manual in .pdf format. It is 160MB and my web space is only 100MB so if someone can point me to a location to upload it to I would be more than happy to do this for you.

Twin plugs should improve the combustion of the air/fuel mixture, so you should get MORE POWER than with a single plug cyclinder. Details are readily available on any Alfa site.
 I am beginning to wonder if changing the spark plugs to performance specifications will increase power further.
Has anyone tried different specification plugs :?:

Was the oem plugs platinum? if yes, isn't platinum plugs good for 100,000 miles. And most normal 1st gen Xfire owners wouldn't have to pay for that maintenance item (since they will sell the car in 3-4 years).

I guess I could have had the dealer replace the plugs but since I have mod'd the car so much and wanted top-of-the-line plugs, I figured I would do it myself. The standard plugs are Bosch OEM but not dual tip (split tip) platinum.
So $96.00 and an hour of work, no more "missing" at idle and now I know we have 12 plugs...

Is this a UK specific (i.e. covers RHD only) service manual?
Many thanks to Adfrad who managed to get the .pdf file down to 80MB for me and then used WinRaR to get it down to about 35MB !!! Amazing considering it was originally 165MB. If you want it go here:

I don't think the manual is different between US / UK. I just paid for it off eBay and it was a copied CD so I don't know.
