Default SLK32 Gauges

Anyone try the SLK32 Gauges yet. Do they plug in or will I need to do anything extra to make them work?

I beleive you need to reprogram the gauges to the car. I'm sure that people here have tried it before, you could try a search. You could just swap the overlay onto your gauges though.

They will plug in a play, but the mileage and VIN have to be changed by a dealer or equivalent. The ECU may puke on it unless this is done.

I think...

Been there, done that. Never could get the fuel gauge to work (needs developer mode in Star-DAS) and the mileage will never be exact. The mileage displayed will be that of the cluster, not your car. If the discrepancy is too big, the ECU won't like it and you'll get 0's across the odo.

To even get them to plug in, the VIN will have to be flashed to seventeen zeros (00000000000000000) and then you will start the long process of tearing the dash apart.

External bezels will need to be swapped from the OE gauge to the SLK32 gauge, which is the easiest part of the whole swap.

Last but not least, your cluster will light up amber. There is no way to correct this, as the plastic screen itself is amber... the lights shining through are clear.

Photos in my gallery under my white car... This mod was performed on my Limited. I will say, they looked superb aside from the fuel gauge not working.

I have a cluster from my 2002 SLK32 parts car (with 12,000 miles) that could go for a fair price.

Just curious. If this fixes the fuel gauge issue, I will seriously consider reinstalling my '32 gauges in my SRT.

I'll lose the 200mph notation, but IIRC no one has hit that.

White Face gauges? I could just swap the cover as long as everthing lines up correctly, I would hate to run out of gas with it still showing 1/4 of a tank.

If you just want white gauges and don't care about an increased max speed calibration on the gauges (honestly, 160 is fast enough) then I would HIGHLY recommend just buying a set of SLK 320 gauges from ebay. Buy the ones from 2001+ as the finish is a crisper white than pre 2001. See attached photo below, the top one is the style you want.

Also, refer to MMZ_Timelord's gauge color thread... instead of fooling with the paint sanding step, simply install the white SLK overlay in place of your OEM black one, and VOILA!!! You have white gauges, a functioning fuel gauge, and you retain *exact* mileage.

If I had another N/A this would be my first mod, as it looked brilliant.

Also, it won't register at all... so the needle will flat-line.
