Sorry Dan, but you're just PLAIN WRONG. Unless you switch the transmission to "W" mode, the car ALWAYS starts "off the line" (which anyone rational would infer to mean from a standing start) in 1st gear. Stop spreading mis-information.

I'm saying this Fact your car( autostick) is in 2nd gear before you even feel it shift! and that will give you a sluggish take off!Read the 1st post on this topic. If your car shifts into 2nd under 5mph that to me is the reason it's slow feeling off the line!Get it

Now you're just being a fool, Dan. Either that or YOUR car is stuck in "W" mode and you're too dense to understand it.

The shift from 1st to 2nd is easily felt (and seen on the tachometer). Stop trying to tell people the car doesn't use 1st gear.

Get your car chipped. You'll feel it even more.

Oh yeah, right, I guess I must have the limited edition east-coast-only 6-speed automatic tranny. Get real Dan...I think I know what gear my car is in, and I sure as hell can count to 4 shifts before it shifts no more. Now, go out to your car, push DOWN on the side of the switch next to the shifter so that that the S end of the button (not the W end) is depressed. Voila...your 1st gear will be back.

You get in your XF and roll off the line keeping under 10mph and pull your shifter over and see if it shifts down! Get IT

I know I know I know... but he's taken James' place as resident idiot, telling people flat out falsehoods about the car, it's hard to sit quietly on the sidelines when he's misinforming people.

David, it is funny you should say that....

I have even mentioned to someone that I thought maybe he was James that has come back, only in an evil mode!

On my way to work I am going to try a downshift at under 10 mph, just to "see if it shifts down!".

Oh wait, an out of context quote!

But that is not true! The bad old government came in here and edited my post. It is a well known fact!

I apologize in advance to all members of this forum for only one thing - that I broke my promise never to respond to another Dan Root post. I promise to do better the next time. But it is really hard, when such obviously incorrect information is being written as fact.....

David this guy has proven time and time again that he is into whipping dead horses. We all (all of us that have auto trannys) know that you are 100% correct. If I were you I would just let him go on and live in his, mostly delusional world. I'm sure the voices in his head aren't listening to common sense either.

You hit the nail square on the head with your reference to James. I think he could be James' father. LOL

I'm doing my best to just read what he writes. Have a good laugh and then promptly ignore it. I've been getting huge chuckles from his attempt to get a deal on chip tunning. He's got it so screwed up that no one knows what's going on and even if it's Upsolute or some off the wall thing.

8) Wasn't that well over a week ago you mentioned that to me?

Come On Guys.... If I can do this YOU CAN TOO. We just must all try our hardest :?

I said I would check out the shifting on my car, and here are the results. I admit the results are hardly scientific, but they will suffice for this demonstration.

Weather Conditions:

Clear Skies, Sunny, 80 degrees, B/P 30.03", Humidy 54%

Location:

Unused large parking lot - dry asphalt

I did 5 tries for each type, and the results were always the same with my car. All tests were done from being stopped with the transmission in the "D" position.

With a smooth slow start, the transmission would shift from 1st to 2nd at 1800 RPM - 10 mph

With the accelerator pushed to the floor, the transmission would shift from 1st to 2nd at 5000 RPM - 30 mph.

If someone else would try this test with their car, it may put an end to this.

But then again, probably not.....

I just tested mine.

Weather conditions... Thunder storms approaching. Temp 85. Humidity 88%

With it in "D" driving like a sane person. (normal easy on the excellerator). Shift from 1 to 2 at right about 1800 - 1850 rpm at 11 mph.

Standing on the excellerator it shifts... 5,800 rmp at 35 mph.

Standing on the throttle and holding the shifter to the left... shift at 6,100 rpm at 38 mph.

Mine's been chipped so I think the slightly higher rpm and speeed at shift if because of the change in the shift points and the higher line pressure.

And you're right... I doubt this will end it.

Wes:

Thanks for duplicating my test.

Similar results - differences due to chip tuning.

Seems reasonable to me.

But it is the word 'reasonable' that will keep this from ending....... :-)

Umm... that's not possible. Since it has been stated as fact that the Crossfire doesn't use the first gear, your car MUST be starting in 4th, not 5th!

93 degrees outside, humidity unkown (but I was dripping, so questimate 80+ %).

My results mirror Wes' within accuracy of odometer/speedometer visual (as I'd expect since ours are practically identical and have exact same Upsolute mapping).

I tested mine in the parking lot yesterday afternoon waiting for traffic to lighten up.

Temperature - 111
Humidity and Barometric Pressure - at 111 who cares?

My results were identical to jsisabella's... like that was a big surprise.
Put an end to this? Only if the forum fool is distracted by something else
