So there are no alternatives to this cupholder issue? I have a 04' coupe and the holder does not work. It punches holes in cups, now it won't even latch when it's in the upright position.

Any way to modify this cup holder?

I got the one called a Wedgie which sticks between the passenger seat and the console (I read about it here). It was $5 and works great - my wife can ride in the seat and not hit it. It is a bit shallow, but it works!

I saw one on Amazon.com, but I got it at the local auto parts store.

After it's installed, I'll post a photo - if I can figure out how on this forum.
It is a stupid question, but what does TSB stand for?

Technical Service Bulletin -- its basically a step below a recall. they put out a warning that bad things might happen if you don't get it fixed.

I have to disagree with you. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is not a step below a recall. It is intended to pass on service information to technicians on a problem, what to look for and suggested ways to do a repair if required.. Bad things will not always happen. A TSB will not be performed unless a customer complains about a certain problem that has a TSB published on the subject.

I've seen TSB's on things as mundane as how to care for chrome wheels on up and other minor issues such as the cup holder, so much for being just a step below a recall.

I use the cup holder from time to time and have put big 32 oz Taco Bell cups in it with no problem. The main thing for paper cups of the fast food variety is that the holder is VERY stiff to get open.

I was thinking of finding a way to put in something a little more 'useful' too... I'll look into the storage bin. Does it have a lid? (I presume it's similar to the center console bin in that respect.

I may try that 'wedgie' one that was pointed out too.

Thanks!

The factory storage bin replacement is nothing more than a rectangular cubby hole formed in black plastic (I assume). Never saw one in person, only pic's posted here.

Uhg... that's ugly... I'll probably just remove the cupholder and fill the spot myself then... yuck.

If you want a good cupholder that stays out of the way, I suggest using the cubby hole that the center divider lid covers. I never use it since I have a glove box, eventually I'll make a cupholder from ply wood and cut holes in it for cups, then just paint it black. Problem solved!

When your done using it, just close the lid and no one knows it's there. Shoot you might find something that fits in it from PepBoys, give it a shot and see what you find.

I have seen pictures, I think on this forum, of where somebody installed the "Commander" model of an XM radio in the cupholder slot... it looked like a perfect fit. The text with the picture claimed that no modifications to the size of the opening were necessary. It was slick looking. But that would require that you wanted an XM radio, of that model. I might do it myself, as I am already an XM radio subscriber. Either that or you could install the storage bin and only roll with drink boxes...

I love the cup holder. Sure it's a pain in the butt cause it pops up all the time and it looks really flimsy, but it held my full 32oz soda through a 20 mph crash without spilling a drop. I don't know of another cupholder that'll do that.

When the ash tray is extended the silver part also pops down and has slots for spare change. I couldn't put my change in the ash tray, the noise would drive me insane.

It sure is... it's a little bouncy and slow, but the gas is free and it fits the whole family!

Here's a clear pic:
