"passing blinker" mod
Hello all, I have searched on site and also on the "big" interweb via dogpile...I am wondering if anyone here has attempted a passing blinker mod or tap blinker mod etc. my 05 magnum had this capability as well as my wife's benz. In my vw we accomplished it via a kit offered w/ the Komfort models as it was a stock option on those models.
I know alot of people don't want or need this mod, but we are so used to it it is on our "must have" list and was actually the first question my wife had; "it doesn't have the tap blinker, but you can add that right?" she has a lot of faith in me apparently.
Anyway, if I remember correctly w/ the vw it was an additional relay that wired into my hazard/flasher relay and allowed for the 3blink tap or solid on blink via the switch/stalk on steering wheel column.
Am curious if anyone knew if this was an option on slks that would probably the easiest plug/play or light modification application but i am open for other suggestions. I have also searched on mb forums.
I do appreciate everyone's time and help/input on this.

I guess the real question is: Are the circuits relay or module controlled?
If the former, there are pprogrammable relays available that can accomplish this.
Just a thought...

I think I found it, apparently the same kit I used on my vw may be used. My wife has the car right now but does anyone know off hand if the hazard switch blinks when engaged? If it does the kit should work. I will attach links I found.
HOW TO: Retrofitting tap to pass turn signals to your W123 / W124 / W126 - PeachParts Mercedes ShopForum
I know it says w123 etc,but if our hazard switches blink it should drop in.

Roger that, thank you.
I ordered a kit for about $60; if it works great, if not, nothing ventured...etc. I did have the panel off this weekend taking out my dash pad and there is plenty of room in there versus my vw which barely had room for the add on relay so this should be pretty easy drop in mod.
I will update after I try this, positive or negative results.

Not to get back on topic, but that was the exact kit I bought; like I said, I've put this on a Passat already, its really just the appropriate relay, terminal and some different color wires; could probably source and build a set cheaper but it is what it is! I could probably just dig into my vw and pull it out and see if it will work but I'm too lazy for that.
The hard part is deciphering these mb/chrysler wiring schematics. I am going to pull up my wis program and see if I can make more sense out of them on there vs the service manuals online; which I love free manuals and am very happy about the availability of them on this site but the wiring diagrams are terrible.worst case I should be able to figure out in/out blink etc on the "built-in flasher relay" on our switches; I love German engineering!
I will keep you posted when kit gets here...Tim

If I am really interested I email them and they often say that's how it showed up on the listing and give me a real price for shipping. Some don't care and say that's it, I suspect they are employees who cannot get off their duffs and find a true cost and we wonder why the economy is going down the crapper.

okay, so I got the kit in today and started messing w/ it. I think the signal needs to be interupted between the hazard switch and the flasher but as they are a closed unit I am having difficulty. I have been messing w/ it for about 3 hours and am kind of brain-fried and cross-eyed now! So I am open to any suggestions right now; I have figured out pins from the connector 1,2 are turn signals brown wire is ground so that's 3 of 5 wires I need to assign! its the last 2 that are frying my brain. I think i need to interrupt them before the module like I said but I am open to suggestions. the peach link above shows what I'm working with but I actually have additional connectors that I can splice in or remove as needed. This shouldn't be as hard as I'm making it but like I said I'm over thinking it and messing myself up...
Any constructive suggestions are welcomed...Tim

I'm not sure if this helps but I tried.
I agree 180 but most info is for vw/audi which is plug and play or other models w/ flasher module/relays; I haven't been able to find any r170 specific or anything else other than that link I posted from pelican/peach parts and I believe that has a separate flasher module so it's easier to interrupt the signals; I'm still working on it and I posted on some mb forums that I used to frequent when we had the "other" benz.

UPDATE:
I have been at it again and I think it is a no-go as I can't interrupt signal between switch and flasher as it's one piece, short of tearing apart the oem switch which I am not going to do w/o a spare on hand.
A UK member on the MB forum did find a module from Germany that does do this as well as other functions for about 149 EUR but they don't ship to US(from website at least)and that would make it about $205+ shipping; if my conversion is accurate. looks pretty cool but I can't justify the cost as of right now, but that at least shows it can be done and its module rather than relay operated it seems.
