Maybe the mods should transfer this to the "They're dropping like flies (celebrity deaths)" thread.

i tried using search but did not get anything.
just did some checking and putting a meter on the battery shows a 12.09 read out.
guess that means battery is good.
the batter is appx 3 years old and is the forum choice interstate.
could it be the rcm??
thanks for help.

Clean your battery post and clamps.. follow the negative cable to where it's attached..clean that contact also. First places I'd go.

Check the cables for any sign of damage inside the insulation, they may have corroded away and it may not be visible from the outside.
If they are not stiff when flexed and show a spot where the bending occurs.

12 volts can be got from eight AAA batteries, it is the amperage that matters. Maybe the battery should be tested.

Don't think I've seen a post where there was "nothing" and it being the RCM..

RCM is different symptoms........most likely a loose connection.

When you say you checked the cables did you just visually check them?
My red coupe was DOA when it arrived on the transport. Previous owner installed a new battery before he shipped the car because he had issues like you are having. I removed the battery clamps and cleaned inside them and then cleaned the posts. Re-attached clamps and problems were gone.

I agree with MrMmiata. Doesn't sound like the RCM.

IF it does this again, pop the cover off the big fuse box in front of the battery and use your meter to measure from each fuse (+) lead with the (-) lead on the engine. See if you have the same reading as across the battery posts. If not, then you have cable problems.
NOT the RCM - with that you at least get all the dash lights ......

pulled the battery and put it on a charger.
re-checked all connections and cables.
they looked great.
re-installed battery.
started right up.
charger only showed 6 amp on meter at beginning of charge, dropped to 1 in an hour.
hope that is all.
thanks for all your input/advice.
greatly appreciated.
this forum is great.

Nada to charged in an hour at 6a. Suspect you need to think about a battery in the near future.

I only use AGMs any more.

It's a pity you cannot even use this battery as a boat anchor these days due to the strict environmental laws we have.

If staying with Interstate, you might look at a MT5-48/H6. For years I went to Firestone to get replacement for a "lifetime" JC Penny Battery. Too bad they are not available now.

Actually mine was an intermittant issue, came and went at oddest times. 6 months of chasing it and found out it was the RCM tho. My theory was depending on temp/humidity it would act up. Hey, I said was a theory, didnt say it was a good one

back from firestone and this is what they found..
voltage 12.76
measured 656cca rated 700cca
temp 63f
charging system no load..14.420 load..14.310
stater test cranking normal voltage 11.06 time..800ms
so i guess battery is good as is all charging/starting systems.
thanks again for all input.

One question that was not asked, how long had the car sat without being started? Standby will suck a battery down pretty quickly. For long sits, disconnect or use a float charger.
