Hard to say. Did you check the tranny fluid? Any visible leaks under the car where you park it? These cars are notorious for having a leaking transmission connector. Right side of tranny under the car. It uuually goes into limp mode -- I believe it stays in second gear. However, your situation sounds different. It could be a computer issue as well. Any check engine lights or codes?
Valve plate needs to be replaced/serviced. Search for "NAG 1"
When it did this to me, there is a hidden/pending code. A dealership can check-for ~ $75.
Sorry, bud.

do you have a tune on the ecu? if yes,, that is causing the car to go into limp mode,, it happens most of the time when in a turn and u give it gas. , it is nothing to worry about just get the ecu reflashed by the people you got your tune from,,let them know what it is doing.
by turning off the engine and restart, this resets the ecu.jim

Yeah, come to think of it they replaced mine under warranty (luckily)

That's it. I had mine replaced last year. Can be $$$. It's a well-known problem and you find all kinds of stories/info with a Google search.
