Radio powers on but no sound?
I just installed a Sony aftermarket radio into my Crossfire Coupe, Ive got the correct harness and connected all the wires to the correct color. The harness had a leftover wire for the Remote out, which I assume turns on the cars built in sub, however I didn't find an extra wire coming from the crossfire that would power that! Any ideas where this would be? Or any other explanation why no sound comes out, not even static?
Pin out schematic that shows the amp turn on in the harness.audio pinout.jpg
Position A5 on the back of your old stereo.. just match your new lead to the adapter position when plugged in.

Still can't get the harness to work!
I got this harness from Best Buy:
Metra Speaker Connector for Select Volkswagen Vehicles VW-9000 - Best Buy
I tried wiring it exactly color to color, and no sound. I then tried switching the red and yellow wires, still no sound. Lastly I tried connecting the remote out wire to the blue/grey wire that was plugged into the A5 slow on the plug coming from the car. Still nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Do I have the wrong harness? I still can't get sound. Should I be using this one?

But what do you do with the RCA cables?
Problem solved! You do have those plugged in to head unit right? If not or no rca outs.. you need to connect them or get the other harness that wires to speaker leads..

I'm a bit confused what you are saying. I don't have the harness with the RCA wires, I just have the basic Metra harness with the colored wires. You are saying I need to get the new harness and connect the RCA wires to the head unit?
Scratch that, my memory was funky on that one. I used the speaker wire connections not the RCA inputs when I wired everything up. I forgot what model of the harness was exactly though. Ugh
The link from crutchfield.. they only have the rca connection and that's where I was misled . Back to bench test the stereo. Yellow to red - red to yellow hook up speaker leads - insert amp turn on lead. It really is this simple so I'm wondering about HU. No blown fuses right?

This is what the back of my radio looks like. Does that mean I should get the harness with the RCAs?

Not necessarily .. it makes it an "option" but not if your output is less than 4 volts on them. Have you bothered to "bench test" that as I suggested? As I said, I have purchased a new one with a dead internal amp before.
What do you mean, bench test?
set it on a bench.. hook up a power source and spare speaker to make sure the stereo is working.. antenna helps to. I had actually tore the dash out of the Miata..wired in the stereo and "nothing". That's when I did as described above and had no doubts I got a bum stereo. Went to wally world and bought one then made arrangements with the ebay seller to return the other one.
